Here's hoping that one day they will inexplicably hate jadite and donate it all to me.

Although porcelain enamel was once used primarily in commercial and industrial settings, it is now being brought indoors as a unique way to add vintage style to the home.

Walking around downtown San Diego, you are invariably drawn to two landmarks, PetCo Park and the Convention Center.

PetCo belongs to the newer generation of ballparks located right smack in the middle of a city. The free viewing areas out beyond center field are a nice touch. The mix of swaying palms and beach sand stamp PetCo Park as a unique and distinctive park that surely provides a sense of place. There is certainly no confusing PetCo with SafeCo.

Nearby, the massive convention center dominates the waterfront. Thankfully, the architects were kind enough to provide public walkways that allow pedestrians to traverse the mammoth structure, knocking off the mile that it would otherwise take for you to walk around. Along the way, you can admire the Flame of Friendship, a 21-foot tall polished stainless steel sculpture presented as a gift by the Government of Mexico to the people of San Diego as a gesture of friendship.

The highlight on the walkabout for me was wandering into the Horton Grand Hotel, a modern-day restoration of two separate (and relocated) historic hotels--The Grand Horton Hotel and the Brooklyn-Kahle Saddlery Hotel--that retains that old-timey charm of 1880s California.

HBW!

I spent a good amount of time this morning on the company web site trying to find a product photo of my new light, without luck. I have real work to do after all. However, I couldn't be more pleased with the final. And, Marc (our neighbor) also put in a dimmer b/c them halogen lights are BRIGHT!

*UPDATE: I found it. I posted it (backdated) to not clutter up my stream. You can see it here.

This year the FFF+ Group have decided to have a monthly challenge called "Freestyle On The Fifth". A different theme chosen by a member of the group each month, and the image is to be posted on the 5th of the month.

This month the theme, "fields of gold" was chosen by Gary (www.flickr.com/photos/gazman_au/).

On the September FFF+ walk through Southbank promenade and the Casino precinct, I walked beneath this very grand patterned golden glass ceiling at the entrance to the Casino.

I chose to photograph this street light as an urban sculpture, isolating it against the sky. The minimal composition emphasizes its elegant design, while the warm glow of the lamps creates points of interest in the geometric composition.

As I was framing and focusing this shot, the building's security officer rushes out the door and warns me, "You cannot take photographs of this building, sir!". I shrug my shoulders and leave.

And December wishes to all of you! PLEASE SEE THIS VIDEO : www.youtube.com/watch?v=M8tyryXRzcc

Nearly 13 years ago I uploaded my first photo to Flickr. The image was taken of the inside of an unusual lamp that had a circular tubed lightbulb, something I had never seen before. For the Flickr Social group's Flickr Birthday challenge I've done my best to "recreate" that photo. None of the lamps around me have a similar bulb, so I had to improvise a little.

The Chicago Public Library and Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) meeting hall and memorial was designed by Boston architectural firm Shepley, Rutan and Coolidge in 1892 and it opened in 1897. Preston Bradley Hall was originally the entrance to the public library portion of the building. It has a 38-foot Tiffany glass dome designed by artist J. A. Holtzer. The Cultural Center is on the National Register of Historic Places #72000449.
