There was a very strange quality to the light that developed as it faded, this threw the fountains into contrast against the back lit trees. One peculiar effect was the sun reflecting off the surface of some leaves and causing local over exposures; you can just see it in the crown of the tree to the RH side of the picture next to the poplar. The strange item on the horizon is Basil Spence's Knightsbridge Barracks which were receiving some sort of maintenance and were consequently covered in plastic sheeting.

this photo was taken at around 15:00, and the sun was off to the right of the photo; you can see there were still faint shadows.
