Journey of a Feather #8148
Feathers are such innocent objects yet, they decorate our clothing, hats and language. I found this one floating in the water and thought it deserved to be captured by my camera. As I stared at the feather, my mind started to wonder…”What had it taken to get the feather to this spot?” How old was the bird that lost this feather? Did it drop out, or was the bird a tasty meal for a gator. Just where did this fluffy matter come from?
According to Wikipedia: Feathers are epidermal growths that form the distinctive outer covering, or plumage, on dinosaurs, both avian and non-avian, and possibly other archosauromorphs. They are considered the most complex integumentary structures found in vertebrates and a premier example of a complex evolutionary novelty.

Three years ago I photographed this mushroom here in the forest at my home when the daylight fell only very slightly through the forest canopy. At the moment I had liked the idea to try to combine the mushroom with a different background, which was also done very close by, but at another time.

FlickrFriday No. 70: #LightAsAFeather
Well, when I need to get my mind free from all the fuss, I like to spend a day near the water.
One other thing that makes you feel light as a feather is being in love!

Flickr Friday theme Light as a Feather. My grandparents called these trees "Quakies" for the way they tremble in the wind. Was that just us or does anyone else call them that?

We have chosen the evening for our trip today and hope for a beautiful sunset.)
Feathers make it so birds can fly. They can fly up, and take our prayers with them. Feathers remind me of life, of death, of hope, of lightness, of the light. This feather, with it's pattern of black and white -- darkness and light -- especialy reminds me that in each of us, there must be both: there must exist in our hearts the capacity to love others ... and to love ourselves.

For this week’s submission LightAsAFeather, here’s a shot from the Red Devils official parachute display team, they are made up of both the Parachute Regiment (The Paras) and the British Army. This shot was taken during their tribute to the 70th anniversary of the D-Day Normandy landings at Duxford.
