For the new year, I was thinking of a lot of things. One of them being my son and how he wants to learn and emulate the things I do. Today, he asked if he could wear my dog tags I received in 1998 after Navy boot camp and if he could wear one of my ties.
As most of you know when you're issued dog tags, the first thing you're told is that it's for life, death or identification purposes on the battle field. So when we dug these up today in one of our boxes that's what I was thinking about. What happens when the time that's allotted for me is done? What lessons do I want my son hold near and dear to his heart?
The 'tie' is up there with shaving, playing catch, or working on a project together. The tie represents what men do well. That is, looking sharp, it displays confidence, being presentable and it symbolizes rewarding, work. But it's the tying of the knot that makes it great. The little lessons in between the raw and the final product...it's simplicity and sophistication at its finest.
Lastly, I hung our dog tags on a barb wired fence to represent how one must protect their legacy with passion and integrity. Because when your time is done, it's what you've left behind that people remember most about you. And most of it is how you treated the lives you surrounded yourself with.

I can't believe I was basking in the heat just 2 weeks ago! It was 105 degrees in Temecula, CA and 25 outside of Seattle, WA!

Well, this is an example of my life perspective that even my family don't get it.
Earlier today, people were very angry cause the bus was very late, & it's snow & cold. Some people got very annoyed and gave me the dirty look when they saw me on the ground pointing my iPad to the snow ground, the bushes, & the trees around where we were waiting. A guy asked me "what the hell are you doing?". I smiled: "waiting for the bus". I don't need a car to drive around to make me happy. The fact that I can see the beauty of every little thing around me make it worth waiting around in the cold & had the chance to capture these instead of getting in a car and rushing away.
