I was nailing my ride heading out from the beach, but just could not even get started coming back in. I finally realized the difference: heading out there's nothing to see but what matters: the wind and your kite. Heading back in, there's all this other stuff in your visual field you orient yourself to - like the beach. So I was orienting my board and kite slicing to that, not the wind.
The last session of the day, when I applied this (to me at least) philosophical brealthrough, was in every sense glorious and burnished by Apollo himself. The sun was getting low so the sea was everywhere fiery burning gold as I carved and leapt through it, yodelling and shouting and not fighting the board and kite and wind and waves but carving fast and smoothly with them. I made my turn, applying my new insight, and continued upwinding back toward the beach.
A transcendant, sublime, literally enthused day I shall not soon forget.
