About the piece

This was a gift for one of my favourite teachers I have ever had, my English 12 teacher. He taught us countless life lessons that I continue to hold onto dearly. Only two other teachers I've had besides him could really conjure up quite the calibre of thought into one's mind to the point where you'd never want the lesson to stop. You could sit there for hours discussing and enriching your mind with literature that would otherwise just be another piece of writing and not be able to relate it to yourself. I wish I could go back to my first semester where I looked forward to attending that class each and every single day. Haha. I remember there was this one time where my entire class was hyped to attend another one of his awesome classes, and then in walks a substitute. Honestly, it looked like everyone there wanted to skip the class because any substitute next to his teachings looked bad. XD

Anyways, this piece represented one of the major lessons he taught us in the class which is that we all have our own demons to face, and that the path through life is never easy. One other thing I wanted to add was that I drew the knight super tiny to represent how insignificant we are in the face of so many obstacles we have to face in our lifetime. In a sense, sometimes our fears and our 'demons' so to speak, can seem unbearably overwhelming at times.

I spent too many hours working on this piece, but I think the overall result was absolutely satisfactory. I wanted to add individual scales onto the dragon, but unfortunately, I didn't have the time or skill to pull it off. One day I'll learn. I got another chance to play with lighting and my first time with lava, so that was pretty cool.

I was disappointed that the actual printout was darker than this, not quite as vibrant, but that's all right, I guess. It could have been worse - my lava could have turned brownish like what happened when printing my phoenix print once or or twice. I was totally thrilled watching his reaction when he received this piece. He couldn't believe that I had made the entire thing all by myself, and the message I wrote on the back of the frame... Haha, well, he'll cherish the piece forever. I love 'im to bits. I will definitely have to come back to visit.

Hope you guys like it. <3

Life Lessons

The difference between school and life?

I've learned that in life anything you give away you receive more of. Be it love, money, good deeds, you will always receive more than you give. The trick is learning to give without expecting anything in return.

So, here's a life lesson.

Be nice to kids. All kids. Always.

a) Because it's the right thing to do, and

b) Because you never know what they'll do with their lives when they're adults.

My parents received this honor from a kid who was in their scout troop when he was a lad. He's since grown up to be a colonel in the Air Force.

Apparently they made quite a lasting impression on him (obviously he really dug the whole uniform and merit badge thing) because he bestowed upon my parents an official Air Force "thank you" and honor for being, um, swell people, I guess.

I don't think this means they have to be combat ready, but, it's nice to have some clout in high places. (literally, in this case, it doesn't get much higher than the Air Force.)

I'm digging the AC/DC/'Flash Gordon lightening bolt striking the path of the orbiting satellite or missile or whatever that is orbiting high above Earth. You've been THUNDERSTRUCK!

Children raised on a family farm learn many life lessons. Cousins Connor, Briggs and Brody know how to work together and play together as witnessed during a surprise visit to Connor’s school.

School district, chef and farmer unite to feed a healthy future

Chefs and farmers have something in common. Both are passionate about high-quality, healthy foods. When the two join forces, everyone wins – especially when consumers are students in the Bondurant-Farrar Community School District. Literally feeding a healthy future is what this collaborative arrangement is all about.

David Walker, nutrition and custodial director for Bondurant-Farrar, secured two Local Food for Schools grants – one for fruits, vegetables and produce and one for proteins – through the Iowa Department of Education and the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship (IDALS) Local Food for Schools grant program.

The Food for Schools grant to purchase proteins allowed Walker to expand his ability to buy local food beyond just produce. So, he contacted Prudent Produce food hub in Elkhart who contacted Shivers Farms, a nearby family farm specializing in beef production. A beneficial collaboration for all was born, and for Bondurant students, beef doesn’t come any more local than five miles up the road.

The district's enrollment is approximately 2,725 K-12 students. It serves breakfast and lunch daily to about 400-plus students in each of five different schools in the district

International Woman’s Day 2024

Pati Pavillion Swansea 8th March

Technocamps annual International Women’s Day gala dinner welcomed nearly 200 guests to the celebration at Patti Pavilion, Swansea. The evening has become a regular feature on the Welsh social calendar, with guests travelling from all parts of the country to attend.

This year was the 24th anniversary of the event which focuses on women in STEM, and their journeys to where they are and how they wish to inspire future generations.

The evening showcased the work being done across Wales to encourage the next generation of women, with talks from Royal Mint CEO Anne Jessopp, CBE, Llusern Scientific Founder Dr Emma Hayhurst, University of South Wales Digital Forenstic Lecturer Bethan Jenkins, and STEM Cymru Student of the Year Anna Petrusenko.

To start the evening, Anne Jessopp, CBE discussed her experience of being the first woman CEO of the Royal Mint in its 1,100-year history.

Dr Emma Hayhurst, the CEO of Llusern Scientific gave us ten extremely valuable life lessons, whilst providing insight into her journey as a microbiologist in academia and now as a CEO.

Bethan Jenkins followed this by giving insight into Digital Forensics and Cyber Security, and her journey with Gwent Police as a Forensic Quality Specialist and Digital Forensic Examiner, to now teaching the next generation as a Lecturer at USW.

The night was finished with a passionate speech from Gower College Student Anna Petrusenko, who share her incredible story of moving from her hometown in Ukraine to being awarded Student of the Year 2023 by STEM Cymru and winning the International Olympiads.
