I learnt a life lesson with this chair that stuck with me. "Cheap is not always the best way to go". My mother gave me this chair to fix up..she taught me how to do macrame the back and seat.I scraped off the old paint and varnish - with the back of a knife!! Then,,,,,,,,, she talked me into buying the cheap, on sale, turquoise blue stain,- 2 dollars - which I painted the chair with. Immediately I hated it, and had to remove that with the back of the knife too. YOu can still see bits of it. Anyhow...this chair is very small......the scale of it doesn't fit ANYWHERE........I'd love to get rid of it but my husband is more sentimental then I am and won't let it go...but now that I've documented it......maybe it can go now!!! yippiieee. (my great grandmothers rocker)
so I thought about making this one of the Life Lessons... but I liked it a lot better in vintage b/w, and the costume just didn't have the same feel as the LL series.
I hate when people decide not to deal with a serious matter, and then act as if the consequences don't affect them.
I can't hurt someone's feelings, and then act like I don't know why they're upset.
I can't rob a bank, and then not know why the police are busting down my door.
I can't not vote, and then go on a tirade about how lousy our government is.
I can't hit someone, and then become shocked when they hit me back.
I can't shoot myself in the head, and continue to ignore the fact that it's killed me.
BUT PEOPLE DO THIS ALL THE TIME!
maybe not to the extent of death.... but how often have you met that person in your life that just refuses to acknowledge what's going on around them. my life has had so many characters in it with that personality...
even if they're not responsible for what's happening, they're still apart of it.
you just can't ignore the world, if you plan on living in it. you can't be an inactive member of the society in which you beg for recognition. you can't forsake your duty to KNOW, so that you can live in a fantasy world that you've created.
and just because you turn a blind eye, doesn't mean it won't kill you.

Life Lessons in Responsibility: The Importance of Washing Dishes at a Young Age
Introduction:
In the journey of growing up, children encounter numerous responsibilities that contribute to their development as responsible individuals. One such task that often falls on the shoulders of young minds is washing the dishes. While some may view it as a mundane chore, the act of washing dishes at a young age carries valuable life lessons that extend beyond the kitchen sink. This essay explores the significance of learning this skill early on, emphasizing the realization that dishes, much like life, do not wash themselves, and the importance of instilling a sense of responsibility through this simple yet crucial task.
Body:
Learning the Basics of Hygiene:
Washing dishes is more than just a household chore; it is an essential practice that teaches children the fundamentals of hygiene. Through this activity, they become acquainted with the importance of cleanliness and the role it plays in maintaining a healthy living environment. Understanding the connection between cleanliness and well-being sets the foundation for a lifetime of good habits.
Ownership of Tasks:
As children engage in the routine of washing dishes, they begin to comprehend the concept of ownership and responsibility. Unlike toys that may magically find their way back to their designated places, dishes don't clean themselves. This realization fosters a sense of ownership, instilling in children the understanding that certain tasks require their active participation.
Time Management and Organization:
Washing dishes introduces young minds to the concept of time management. It teaches them to allocate time for chores amidst their other activities. Furthermore, the task involves organizing dishes systematically, understanding the importance of order and efficiency in completing any job. These skills extend beyond the kitchen, becoming valuable assets in various aspects of life.
Appreciation for Effort:
Through the act of washing dishes, children gain an appreciation for effort and hard work. They witness firsthand the transformation of a dirty, cluttered space into one that is clean and organized. This experience lays the groundwork for understanding the value of putting in effort to achieve positive outcomes, a lesson that extends to academic pursuits, personal goals, and professional endeavors.
Teamwork and Cooperation:
Washing dishes often involves collaboration, especially in a family setting. Whether it's siblings working together or parents and children sharing the load, this chore teaches the importance of teamwork and cooperation. The ability to work harmoniously with others is a crucial life skill that extends beyond the kitchen and into various social and professional settings.
Conclusion:
In conclusion, washing dishes at a young age is more than a household chore; it is a gateway to understanding fundamental life principles. The simple act of scrubbing plates and utensils teaches children about hygiene, responsibility, time management, and the value of hard work. As they realize that dishes do not wash themselves, they also comprehend the importance of actively participating in their own lives. By instilling these values early on, parents and caregivers empower children to navigate the complexities of adulthood with a strong foundation of responsibility and a mindset geared toward positive contribution to the world around them.
I dedicate this to my dear uncle who passed away a week ago.
Thank you for everything you taught me, and the way you were always there for me.
I will never forget a single memory that I'm lucky enough to treasure.

Believe that nothing is impossible. Sometimes life doesn’t give you something you want, not because you don’t deserve it, but because you deserve more. Believe in yourself, push your limits, experience life, conquer your goals, and be happy. Live your life, take chances, be crazy. Don’t wait, cause right now is the oldest you’ve ever been & the youngest you’ll ever be. A great attitude becomes a great day, which becomes a great month, which becomes a great year, which becomes a great life. Life has many different chapters for us. One bad chapter doesn’t mean it’s the end of the book. In life, I have made a lot mistakes and I have felt a lot of pain, but mistakes make me smarter and pain makes me stronger. A good life is when you assume nothing, do more, need less, smile often, dream big, laugh a lot and realize how blessed you are. The secret of being happy is accepting where you are in life and making the most out of everyday. Great things never came from comfort zones. Caption about life and Life related quotes Life becomes easier when you delete the negative people from it. Live simply. Dream big. Be grateful. Give love. Laugh lots. Enjoy life. We are not given a good life or a bad life. We are given a life. It’s up to us to make it good or bad. Life is too short to worry about stupid things. Have fun. Fall in love. Regret nothing, and don’t let people bring you down. God is taking care of you, even when it seems like your all alone; believe me, God is working hard behind the scenes of your life. It is not what happens to you that matters in life, but how you respond to what happens to you that matters. You are GOOD enough, SMART enough, BEAUTIFUL enough, and STRONG enough. Believe it and never let insecurity run your life. Keep the Faith. The most amazing things in life tend to happen right at the moment you’re about to give up hope. The biggest mistake we make is thinking life is all about our dreams and desires. We forget that God’s Will always comes first. Life is tough, but you must be tougher. Caption about life and Life related quotes Don’t regret knowing the people that came into your life. Good people give you happiness. Bad people give you experience. Just because something hasn’t worked out for you now, doesn’t mean there isn’t something big in store for you in the future. WORRY looks around. REGRET looks back. FAITH looks forward. Sometimes tears help us clear our eyes so we can clearly see the good things ahead. If you keep doing what you have always done, then you will keep getting what you have always gotten. Trust before you Love. Know before you Judge. Commit before you Promise. Forgive before you Forget. Appreciate before you Regret. As we grow up, we realize it becomes less important to have a ton of friends, and more important to have real ones. Keep pushing yourself forward. Do whatever it takes. You’ll soon leap over the final hurdle and land right where you want to be. Take control of your destiny. Believe in yourself. Ignore those who try to discourage you. Avoid negative sources, people, places, & habits. Your past is done, so forget it, your future is yet to come, so dream it, but your present is now, so live it with no regrets! You can’t go back and change the past, so look to the future and don’t make the same mistake twice. Good things happen when you distance yourself from negative people. Just because you can’t see the air, doesn’t mean you stop breathing. Just because you can’t see God doesn’t mean you stop believing. Learn to appreciate what you have, before time makes you appreciate what you had.
Life lessons learned:

Photography teaches you a lot of life lessons if you are willing to listen. Sometimes it is not what is ahead of you that is beautiful, but maybe it is what is behind you.

Over the summer, while painting my apartment, I realized that the sequence of tasks might make an interesting lesson. So I kept all the tools in this little box, and finally brought them to school.
So today in class we learned about sequence and higher order thinking. I handed out these items to the tables, and each table shared with the class what they had and what it was for (I had to correct or guide some kids with the paint can opener and the sanding sponge). Then I gave each table some index cards with the tools listed on them, and the kids had to put the cards/tasks in order, and explain in writing in their notebooks why each step needed to go before or after another task.
At the end, I redistributed the items to some students and then they came to the front of the room and put themselves in order. As a class, we discussed why each step came in what order, and what would happen if, say, you spackled after painting.
I think it was a fun lesson, and the kids definitely got into it. They liked looking at and playing with the tools, and everyone was involved. Lots of accountable talk! It actually got too loud with the accountable talk a couple times. But overall, it was good, especially because it's pretty difficult to do kinesthetic lessons in English.
Feel free to borrow or adapt this idea, fellow teachers!
