The lid to this Crabtree & Evelyn candy tin measures 2.75" across. I use it to hold push pins in my office. HMM, everyone.

Fearing a look at the price tag would cause constriction of the heart, I didn't have the heart to look. :-)

COSTA DEI TRABOCCHI.
I trabocchi sono antiche attrezzature fisse da pesca, somiglianti a palafitte, posti in senso perpendicolare rispetto alla costa. La loro struttura è formata da assi e travi ancorati sugli scogli. Sulle travi poggia una passerella in legno che conduce ad una piattaforma da cui dipartono dei pali leggeri, detti antenne, alle cui estremità sono fissati gli angoli della rete.

Macro Mondays 'checkered' theme.
I didn't find anything checkered until last night, when I was looking for something in a kitchen drawer and saw a stack of jam jar lids. I haven't made jam or marmalade for many years but for some reason I kept these lids. A couple made a last minute shot this morning for this week's theme.
The image measures approx 2" in width
I've been doing so many color photos, it was nice to do one in a sepia tone. This photo goes with my next blog post about cooking pans.

My goal with this series is to explore every day scenes under the cover of darkness. A street corner, a lamp post, a doorway. Big city, small town, urban, rural. Early on in the COVER OF NIGHT series, I shot a couple gas stations. They were not initially the type scene I was looking to capture, but when I came across one late at night, bright and isolated in the darkness, it was impossible for me to resist, so I continue to shoot them. I have now shot enough that they have become a series-within-the-series. For a look at them as a collection, check out, Gas Stations
This little glass lid is actually not a bottle cap, but a lid for a Calvados glass.
But in this composition he cuts a fine figure.

For 121 Pictures in 2021 #53 "Lids", these colorful canning jar lids are made for fermenting vegetables. They have a small slit it the end of the tube that lets CO2 out as pressure builds, but does not allow air back in. In this case I am fermenting chiles (habaneros and aji "lemon drop" to be precise) for hot sauce. I'm also fermenting a jar of mango pieces to tone down the habanero. But both hot sauces will be quite hot. Fermentation in this case is from Lactobacillus, common on most veggies, and has been used as a presef\rvation method for centuries in some parts of the world. The process is to soak the peppers in a 2% saline solution at room temperature (or a little co0oler if possible), and converts any carbohydrates into CO2 and lactic acid, and the acid lowers the PH enough to prevent any bad bugs from reproducing. In the case of hot sauce, the PH is further lowered with the addition of some amount of vinegar.

Intricate details of the jar we keep on the kitchen counter for tea bags. Nothing better than hubby making the morning tea.
Macro Mondays and the theme of "Glass".
For this theme I finally settled on the lid of a Glass Decanter as my subject. The Decanter has been on a bookcase at my Mum's house completely unused for around 25 years.
For the background I created a few scenes in photoshop using the gradient tool and then set up the subject in front of the laptop screen.
Then it was just a case of flicking between the scenes to see what it looked like and capturing the image.
If you zoom in to the image then you will see around 25 years of grime and dirt that has somehow settled inside the lid.
