Nine members of North Harris Co. Dulcimer Society played traditional folk songs to a standing room only crowd last night at Friendswood Public Library. The music was fantastic and the audience had a wonderful time singing along to traditional songs such as Yellow Rose of Texas and Amazing Grace. Instruments played include banjo, upright bass, autoharp, dulcimers, guitars, flute, fiddle, and various percussion instruments. Group speaker and bass player Mary Ann Drabek shared her knowledge of the history of each song performed. The program was both entertaining and educational. The library hopes to have North Harris Co. Dulcimer Society back for another performance.
This library has very large windows about a story up that illuminate the entire structure. Beautiful!
THE BERLIN WALL
The Berlin Wall, erected in August 1961, was a symbol of fear and oppression. It separated a city and a nation until freedom of movement was restored on November 9, 1989. This segment of that barrier is presented to the George Bush Presidential Library Center at Teas A&M university on behalf of the people of the reunited city of Berlin.

in 1901, members of Lampasas' Women's Clubs came together to establish a library for the benefit of the community. early efforts failed, but in 1904 a charter was granted to the Lampasas Library Association. The Pierian Club and the Twentieth Century Club held book receptions and performances to start a library collection. The successful programs brought in more than 800 books, and women staffed a subscription library room until a group of men bought a building near city hall for a full library. The library continued to expand, and the city built an independent structure for it in 1962. More than a century after Lampasas Women's first efforts, the library continues to benefit local citizens.
