Music cannot be avoided on the way to reference! The reference desk was once backed by a tall shelving unit, which blocked the view to e-reference (specialized databases) and the Southwest Collection. Dave Genesy recommended the removal of several such barriers, opening up the library's interior spaces and making the most of the natural light pouring in through the north-facing windows.
The Harrisville Library is at the head of Mill Pond in this wonderfully preserved classic New England mill town.
This week I blog about the unique photographic opportunities in this New England treasure.

The public library in Devonport Guildhall, opened in 1986 and closed in February 2009.
The library was located in the former Devonport Mortuary. The white tiled walls being part of a listed building, the shelving was all freestanding.
The floor in the main room was levelled - underneath is the original sloping floor which removed the blood during autopsies.

Freaky Friday is the culmination of the Summer programs for the Tweens and Young Adults. They get to come to the library after hours on Friday and have pizza, games and win prizes! This year was a blast!
A great group of kids showed up at the library for the annual Freaky Friday party for kids who read at least 20 books in the Summer Reading Club and attend a certain number of the library's Summer programs. They were entertained with games and food and everyone got to take home a free book at the end of the night.
The sign above the door says - " This building erected by the Corporation of Liverpool was , by a resolution of the Council dated 6th October 1875 , ordered to be named The Picton Reading Room in recognition of the valuable services rendered by James Allanson Picton Esquire JP . FSA . in his capacity as Chairman of the Public Library , Museum and Gallery of Arts Committee , which position he had then occupied for a period exceeding a quarter of a century . "
The big books. Especially the three volume spider set, which is still the definitive set, if a little dated now. Anything that doesn't fit on the first shelf.

I've spent too much time in here recently preparing for exams. It's a really amazing place with lots of book, what more can I say?
The new library looks amazing, if you get chance go see it for yourself. My old shots i took I'm going to either re-edit the ones have on flickr now and add some never used ones to this set, while at the same time i go back and get some more of the new development.
These are hand held, was too busy to get a tripod out on Friday

The Civic Center Library sponsored a free Photo Booth and hosted its first tabletop Game Night on Tuesday September 16!
We had many visitors to the Purple Monkey Photo Booth in the Civic Center Cafeteria, and later in the day at the Civic Center Library. After posing with a prop or a favorite book, or just some goofy friends, visitors left photos and comments for the Civic Center Library's scrapbook.
Game Night was a chance for all ages to enjoy a wide variety of games including old favorites like chess, checkers, Scrabble, Monopoly, Candy Land, Chutes and Ladders, Sorry, Yahtzee, Uno and more. Thank you to everyone who came by, and made this event a huge success!
Thank you also to Jeff Craemer, who supported this program by funding the use of the photo booth.
