The library, by the way, was very active. There was also the obligatory Napping Older Guy at a table.

The sinuous, organic form of the library integrates it into the surrounding spaces and simultaneously makes it stand out as a unique destination in the context. Circular spaces and elliptical elements within the plan improve the fluidity of the spatial flow and enhances the movement of patrons.

Neat war memorial with fence decorated with poppies, and Remembrance bench outside this library. Bigger than it looks - it is 'L' shaped with a long section out back, it was busy for a Saturday morning - with teens just hanging out, people using the computers, and some just reading

This spring I had the opportunity to photograph the interior of the New York City Library Main Branch. I really liked the way this window look with my Canon 15mm fisheye lens. Library of Celsus, Ephesus. Notice the hybrid Roman capital on an unfluted column, combining the Greek Ionian and Corinthian styles: Rome proclaims itself a new world order that surpasses all that was ancient Greece.

Re-stepping at McGill Library
McGill Library, built in the Collegiate Gothic style, opened on campus in 1938. It is named after Ralph Gibson McGill (1902). McGill was a missionary to Egypt. He drowned in the Mediterranean while trying to rescue children.
McGill Library was rededicated in 2008 after a $6.2 million renovation project. That project included: installation of compact shelving for books and periodicals on the ground floor; relocation of the main entrance and construction of a handicapped-accessible lift; creation of the Williamson and the Drinko Rooms; repair and renovation of the Ferguson Room, including refinishing of vintage 1930s solid oak chairs and library tables; and relocation and renovation of the computer lab.

This library was inside the building which had originally housed the Devonport Mechanics' Institute completed in 1849. This was opened as the Devonport Free Public Library on Monday February 6th 1882.
The library in this building, always subject to disruptive behaviour from young people, transferred to Devonport Guildhall in the 1980s.
It was closed in that building in 2009, to reopen in the former St Aubyn's church in 2010.
