International Holocaust Remembrance Day on 27 January (it was chosen to commemorate the date when the Auschwitz concentration camp was liberated by the Red Army in 1945.)

The Fischer's Lovebird is a species of the small genus Agapornis of parrots. They are native to south and southeast of Lake Victoria in northern Tanzania. They and several other species of Lovebirds (mostly native to Africa) are kept as pets, and several colored mutations have been selectively bred in aviculture. The Lovebird name comes from the parrots' strong, monogamous pair bonding and the long periods which paired birds spend sitting together. I have never seen one before. This one is most likely an escapee from captivity.

Shalom. I think this word needs special attention today...

...and is a good opportunity for many of us to rethink our convictions.

Bagrati Cathedral is located in Kutaisi, Imereti region, on Ukimerioni hill. It was built in 1003, during the reign of Bagrat III. Bagrati Temple is an important monument of Georgian culture, both in terms of architectural solution and symbolic significance. It is a symbol of the unity and strength of our country. "Matiane Kartlisai" tells us that Bagrat III gathered representatives of different parts of Georgia and invited guests from abroad for the celebration of the blessing of Bagrat III temple. “ All the rulers, the Catholics, the priests, and the heads of all the monasteries, and all the nobles of the upper and lower kingdom of the land, and all the other nations, were gathered together ". Doing so, he gave Bagrati Cathedral general national significance. It should be noted that the inscription near the north window of the building, which is the oldest example of the use of Arabic numerals in Georgia, gives the exact date of construction of the church: “ The church was built in 223”. If we put this date in the Christian calendar, it turns out to be 1003 years. Until the end of the XVII century, the monument was safely preserved. In 1692, the Ottomans, entered from Akhaltsikhe, captured the Kutaisi fortress and blew up the Bagrati temple during the battle. They also seized the wealth of the church. In 1770, King Solomon I of Imereti recaptured the fortress and liberated the Bagrati Temple from the Ottomans, although the monument was further damaged during the battle. Nowadays, the church is completely restored. The Bagrati Temple has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 1994, but was removed from the list after restoration.

Architecture. The Bagrati Temple is a triconch-type cross-domed structure with cross-sided arms and four free-standing under the dome piers. The building has a large interior space. The west arm has three naves, the side naves are two-storied, and they have choirs on the second floor. The storerooms next to the eastern altar are also two-storey. The solution of the inner space of the temple is sharply detected in external masses. The south and north arms protrude from the connecting lines of the parts, emphasizing the concept of the cross plan. The architect of the Bagrati temple built the dome on high poles, and used a unified system of fixtures from the flat to the facade, which was a novelty in Georgian architecture. The walls and floors of the building were decorated with mosaics. Richly carved gates were erected on the west and south arms of the church a couple of decades after they were built. In the south gate there are traces of a fresco - the image of the Virgin. The temple was surrounded by a stone wall, inside which were built auxiliary buildings and a stone bell tower. In the north-west corner of the church stands a three-story tower, which was built before the construction of the temple was completed. There is one room on each of the three floors, with fireplaces. This tower was probably inhabited by a bishop.

Saw this in the front garden of an apartment block nearby and was intrigued by how many unfurled flowers were emerging in all directions, is it a photographer's thing that see's the world this way? This is the beauty of the art of photography to bring about so much of intrigue, curiosity, beauty and expression in one secular, liberated and perfect image, and of course, art is the within the eye of the beholder, isn't that amazing?

This car is FREE until the end of July!!

Having liberated my feet from the prison of red shoes

and felt the cold touch on the ground with my feet at that night,

I was trying to find my dropped earring and grain of the night.

This, is the big bang, the end of reality as it is known and the beginning of something beautiful. An explosion of light and sound to create a new universe, a slur of space dust and dead stars and a celestial glow that halos every head.

This is it.

I am afraid and I am liberated and I am alive and I am awake and at 6 o'clock this morning I remembered what it all meant to me, this is my world, my work, what I create and display, it's my perspective, my mindset, what I see when I open my eyes in the morning,

this is everything.

And I am not scared of showing it to you and I am not going to dwindle away like a dead star, only here because my light left millions of years ago, I will exist in full, like a raging nebula threatening but never reaching the peak of its existence.

I will continue to grow and thrive and be.

And I will change, I swear that I will, always for the better.

Thank you for following on my tail as I soared through space like a comet, smacking meteors and planets on my way to this point in history, meeting my end, another space rock, my end and my beginning.

When I sat in the car with Cody on the way out this morning I said I wasn't sure what to write here, and he said I didn't need to write anything except,

"I'm done."

So here we are, I am a new galaxy, a young mess of planets sprawled out across a deep black,

a metamorphosis.

From the dark days of human history, a place that no one should forget.

Holocaust Memorial Day falls on January 27th, the day this camp, Auschwitz-Birkenau, was liberated from the Nazi regime.

I took this picture back in 2016.

The Monument to the Tsar Liberator is a monument in the centre of Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria. It was erected in honour of Russian Emperor Alexander II who liberated Bulgaria of Ottoman rule during the Russo-Turkish War.

The Monument to the Tsar Liberator lies on a little square at Tsar Osvoboditel Blvd, facing the National Assembly of Bulgaria and with the Radisson SAS hotel behind it.

The Neoclassical memorial’s author is Italian sculptor Arnoldo Zocchi. The foundation stone was laid on 23 April 1901, St George’s Day, in the presence of Knyaz Ferdinand I of Bulgaria, and the monument was completed on 15 September 1903.

The Monument to the Tsar Liberator consists of a pedestal, a middle part with figures and a massive Neo-Renaissance cornice finished with the sculpture of the Russian tsar on a horse. The bronze wreath at the foot was donated by Romania in memory of the Romanian soldiers that died during the war. The black polished granite came from Vitosha mountain which lies next to Sofia.

The main bronze bas-relief in the middle part depicts a group of Russian and Bulgarian soliders led by Nike, the Ancient Greek goddess of victory, who rises her sword high above. Portraits of Grand Duke Nicholas Nicolaievich, Count Ignatiev and the generals Joseph Vladimirovich Gourko and Mikhail Skobelev surround the group.

Private John M. Steele (1912--1969) was the American paratrooper (US 82nd Airborne) made famous in the movie, “The Longest Day” who landed on the pinnacle of the church tower in Sainte-Mère-Église, the first village in Normandy liberated by the Americans on D-Day. Today, the village church shows a parachute with an effigy of private Steele in his Airborne uniform hanging from the steeple. Bullet holes are still visible on the stone walls of the church.

I best save these as I suspect I'll need them for the matter-antimatter warp drive I'm building in the basement! The way they seem to be defying gravity I suspect they have some special properties! OK, maybe not and you may have seen the top one in a macro image I made for the Macro Mondays group, if not see the first comment. Brielle was liberated from the Spaniards by the 'Watergeuzen' (Sea Beggars) on 1 April 1572.

It was an important moment in the course of the Eighty Years' War and it meant that Brielle was the first free town in the Netherlands. The local population celebrates that historic fact every year on 1 April.

"I read and am liberated. I acquire objectivity. I cease being myself and so scattered. And what I read, instead of being like a nearly invisible suit that some times oppresses me, is the external world’s tremendous and remarkable clarity, the sun that sees everyone, the moon that splotches the still earth with shadows, the wide expanses that end in the sea, the blackly solid trees whose tops greenly wave, the steady peace of ponds on farms, the terraced slopes with their paths overgrown by grape-vines.

I read as one who abdicates. And since the royal crown and robe are never as grand as when the departing king leaves them on the ground, I lay all my trophies of tedium and dreaming on the tiled floor of my antechambers, then climb the staircase with no other nobility but that of seeing.I read as one who’s passing through. And it’s in classical writers, in the calm-spirited, in those who if they suffer don’t mention it, that I feel like a holy transient, an anointed pilgrim, a contemplator for no reason of a world with no purpose, Prince of the Great Exile, who as he was leaving gave the last beggar the ultimate alms of his desolation."

In Balakleia, liberated from the occupiers, the Ukrainian soldiers tore off a poster with the Russian flag from the billboard and saw a poem by Taras Shevchenko under it.

The Russians taped up a portrait of Kobzar and an excerpt from his poem "Caucasus", which was written in 1845. In the work, Taras Shevchenko condemns the Russian Empire and glorifies the people's struggle for freedom.

The following fragment of the poem was on the poster:

“…І вам слава, сині гори,

Кригою окуті.

І вам, лицарі великі,

Богом не забуті.

Борітеся — поборете,

Вам Бог помагає!

За вас правда, за вас слава,

І воля святая!..”

“…And glory, mountains blue, to you,

In ageless ice encased!

And glory, freedom’s knights, to you,

Whom God will not forsake.

Keep fighting — you are sure to win!

God helps you in your fight!

For fame and freedom march with you,

And right is on your side!..” Translated by John Weir
