Here is a male Black-throated Mango (Anthracothorax nigricollis) calmly perched and enjoying the rain. It was an enjoyable morning to photograph. No wind and gentle rain created conditions for several bird species to remain motionless while it rained upon them. I captured the falling rain with slow shutter speed, in this case, 1/13 sec.

The Black-throated Mango is about 10.2 cm (4 inches) in length, and its dark iridescent plumage with tones of black, blue, green, and gold make it an attractive bird. It breeds year-round in an extensive range at altitudes below 1750 meters (5700 feet) from Panama to northern Argentina.

Let it slide is a track by Alabama 3 , and is fine for watching the sun slide behind Kynance Cove. The wild flowers sprinkling the short turf were superb, mainly spring squill, thrift, kidney vetch and sea campion. A great way to start the week.

I blended together two images of the same place with different exposure times (2 seconds for the background / foreground and stones and 15 seconds for the water) - I couldn't use a tripod in the gorge as there wasn't enough space for it. I put the camera on a fence post, hoping for minimal vibrations from visitors walking by ... it didn't work most of the time, lol. Especially the stones / rocks got rather blurry with exposure times over 4 seconds.

So I am glad I got at least one rather decent LE (composite / blended) image I could use to play around a bit : ))

Edited mainly with Topaz Studio 2 (Hummingbird Wings and City Flare at 50% opacitiy) - and Color Efex 4 (contrast, polarizing filter)

This was taken in early June when I headed down to the pond to get pictures of cranes and geese. On the way out this little guy was in my way. I simply had to wait until he got out of my path....but decided to take a few shots. :-)

Some of my favourite wild flowers that remind me so much of my childhood spent in Denmark, where I'd be sent out before dinner to go pick some for a little vase, to put on the dinner table. Good times.

- Guachinango, south central Cuba.

Lies in the Valle de los Ingenios, on the valley's inland road; 20 km (12 miles) northeast of Trinidad. An old steam train stops at an old hacienda (estate) built by Don Mariano Borrell toward the end of the 18th century. The building now houses a restaurant.

my dog Anna to you all! She is a shepherd mix and I adopted her 4 weeks ago. I caught her in this moment in our home where she was looking out our living room door. I have been working with her so she can go with me out in the field and we have a ways to go before I feel she is ready for prime time. I look forward to being able to travel with her and take her to the places I love to see and photograph.

our trees are bare. strong winds roar through naked branches. i appreciate trees in all seasons. during winter, they teach me about vulnerability, resilience, and courage. there’s no place to hide—no protective leaves—just bare branches. on friday, i found this cracked, beautiful leaf in a nearly frozen puddle. just like the trees, it teaches me to be real and brave; to allow sun to illuminate wounds; to let love in; let people in; let tears and laughter flow.
