The grass was the coolest place to stand...

Boots by Karrimor. Sold at sort of lower-medium price point with about four years wear on them and completely shagged in the sole despite plenty of pattern left and the superstructure being in good nick. Doubly cross making as I'd just put a new lace on one of them. Not my regular walking boots - just general out and about footwear.

Karrimor, a British firm was founded by Charles and Mary Parsons and her sister Grace Davies, who hand-sewed cotton-duck bicycle saddlebags from the upstairs of their Lancashire cycle shop.

They used to have a very good reputation for quality especially during the period when those in charge were keen outdoor types. Of late things have become somewhat complicated for the company and some have lost confidence. I for one.

Week 10: J is for Job

I didn't do a very good job of ensuring there was no water in this pot before the beast from the east arrived!

A local laundrette from Allerton, Liverpool. I’d spent all night down at the waterfront taking photos and spotted this on the way home – I’m probably happier with this shot than with anything from the rest of the night. There’s a lesson there somewhere, I’m sure of it….

to have the boys paint MORE MORE MORE often ...

This hand is P's.

While during this painting, drops from his brush fell on his painting/artwork, and he was so angry & mad about himself (he is very emotional ... er, just like his mom), he wanted to throw the whole artwork. He gave up. I didn't throw the artwork. I let it dry. He made another one. When the first one was dry, and that both the boys were done with painting, I used the remnants of paint & finish (my own way) P's first painting. I had told him that it was not good for him to think that his painting was ruined because of these water+paint drops, and that no painting is wrong/bad, because you usually don't know what the painting/artwork will be at the end (unless you have a VERY precise idea of what you're wanting to paint !!). He is too perfectionnist & not enough tolerant with himself, and not free enough in his movements & thoughts (that's what I think, at least) I'm not very happy/proud about this, and want to help him create anything with a free mind, no limit, no restraint.

When what I had painted (on his 1st painting) was dry, I showed him, and he was happy & relieved, and he hugged me tight & told me "thank you mom". I was so relieved, happy about what I had done.

It was a good lesson for both of us.

he learnt that he must never give up

I learnt that I must have my boys craft more, create more, and help them craft & create their own way

When wandering Queenstown with a camera, it is easy to become somewhat enamoured with The Remarkables. You find yourself becoming quite tunnel visioned as they continue to draw the gaze of your lens, over and over. So many beautiful sights can pass you by as you remain transfixed on that one mountain range. Stunning as it is, it often becomes a distraction.

Today I walked from Queenstown to Frankton. The weather hasn't been that good and I wasn't expecting much, nor was much being delivered. However, for a brief moment on the way back, when I thought all the good light was lost, the last rays of the sun felt it necessary to make themselves known. The Remarkables remained dull, blocked out by cloud, but when I looked down the lake, towards Cecil and Walter peaks, something special was going on.

What you see here is the result.

Side Note:

There have been many sunsets where I've seen The Remarkables lit up in a stunningly red tone. This hasn't happened while I've been here, and I'm going blame the cloud that has served only to diffuse the light as it sets. Today, the sun managed to briefly peak out from that cloud before it disappeared behind the mountains. That light was blocked from reaching the dominant mountains of the area, but turned Cecil Peak and Walter Peak into something that resembled more of a painting than an actual vista. Heed my advice: when in Queenstown, don't get mezmorized by the alpha-mountains. They won't beat you up and steal your lunch money, but they will cost you some special shots.

is needed for something to change, for better or worst...

these few days (especially today), something bad happened at work, some wrongs done by me.

when mistakes are made, it does not matter if your original intention is good, harm is already done.

That's the lesson learnt the hard way today.

(edit: i think what have happend to "komehachi888" is far worst in certain way than what i been through these days)...

This is my father in law Terry, a really great man, so why did i only remember to change ISO after getting home and taking this photo - gutted! I'm posting it here as a lesson and a reminder to myself to think before hitting the button.
