The image of this beautiful male Lesser Scaup was from my trip to Choptank River last February. Every winter thousands of ducks set-up on the Choptank, and it is a bonanza for bird photographers. I am eagerly awaiting ducks this year and have some very specific goals in regard to the species I want to focus on and the types of shots that I want. This image gives me inspiration for that soon arriving season. Please view large for best Lesser Scaup experience.
Thank you for stopping by. Almost the weekend~!
Usually, I avoid shooting at high noon but yesterday? My shutter finger was twitchier than a caffeinated squirrel.
Off to the park I went, ready to squint and sweat for my "art". Now, here's the thing - I've spent so long zooming in on tiny things so when I stumbled upon flamingos, I felt like I'd brought a magnifying glass to a bird-watching party. I am so used to making small things look big, I forgot how to make big things look... well, normal-sized. I am not sure I like it. I guess I'm a small-picture kind of person.¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Have a great weekend!
Adé - Tout savoir/Knowing everything
(Garrulax monileger)
A mid-sized laughingthrush, usually seen foraging on the ground and in shrubbery of hilly forest. Brown overall, with rusty highlights on the neck and flanks, and with prominent black markings on the white breast and face. Looks similar to the slightly larger Greater Necklaced Laughingthrush, with which it often associates in mixed flocks; Lesser differs in being duller rusty overall, having a complete (rather than partial) breast band, and having minimal streaking on the cheeks.

Sometimes you can't get to eye level and sometimes even if I could, I wouldn't just because I want to capture the reflection in water or whatever the reason is. In this case, it was both.
I'm seeing quite a few of these in our area just recently, lovely little bird, i hope the sightings continue

130) Lesser Coucal
Lesser Coucal, Centropus bengalensis, Butbut Kecil
This species is usually found is often marshy land with grass and tree cover. The lesser coucal is found singly or in pairs low in the undergrowth in marshy or grassy areas adjoining forest. They appear to be found mainly in lowlands. Like other coucals, they are not brood-parasitic cuckoos. They moves fast among the undergrowth searching for insects as their main diet.

Unfortunately I was not able to find the spike-tailed sandpiper and golden plovers that have been seen at the Refuge.

Lesser Violetear (Colibri cyanotus) is medium sized hummingbird, locally common in montane forest borders, clearings and pastures with trees in regions of southern Central America and of South America, from Costa Rica south to northern Argentina, and east to the coastal mountains of northern Venezuela. Males often sing (surprisingly loud) near to one another, however, but do not form true leks. At the global level the conservation status of Lesser Violetear is rated as Least Concern (BirdLife International 2011).
