Out of all the things I had to tell my dad in this Father's Day (In Brazil, we celebrate it in mid-August), this is the only truly important one. :)
Living behind the dark side of the sun
everyone's here but nobody comes;
things are finished before they've begun
life is beautiful behind the sun.

It was about 15 degrees with a windchill of 9 this morning when I went out to take these photos. My hands were numb in minutes, even with gloves, but I'd say it was worth it. No pain, no gain, right?
Shirahige Shrine Torii, Shiga, Japan 2023.
This must be one of the most meditative locations that I have ever photographed. We visited for sunset and sunrise. The latter was so peaceful and we had such calm conditions that it was a truly beautiful experience.
In fact, the sun rose silently behind a cloud and was not visible until it emerged out of the cloud and cast a huge reflection on the silent calm water. It was a quite a moment.
Working with the 4th theme still since my barbecue decorations were still hanging around this morning. I used a Lightroom Holga preset on this image, it makes it very grainy I thought it worked well for the image.

Shot in broad daylight, but with an aperture cranked down to 32. Handheld flash (+3) from the top right. The BG is a black t-shirt.
Apples aperture was used in postproc: slight sharpening, a little crop and pushing up the black-level quite haevily
sonoma, california
yesterday, i paid a visit to historic sonoma in the valley of the moon. two of my three children were born there. it wasn't the "boutique town" then that it has now become -- ever charming, but catering much more to tourism and the class conscious. anyway, i should have been able to get lots of cool photos. as it was, only a few minimalist things made the cut.. .i'll have to go back again.

I bought these tulips yesterday so they could well be featuring again in the next few days!
