This image was taken on the last day of the mill's operation following collapse of the North Pit wall of the Tarmoola Gold Mine. It was capable of processing 3.6 million tones of ore per annum. It was later sold off and dismantled.

On 04/02/2004, the eastern wall of the Tarmoola Gold Mine collapsed. This was the cause behind the subsequent demise of the company, Sons of Gwalia later that year. It was the largest corporate failure in Australia's history at that time with debts exceeding $800 million after suffering from falling gold reserves and hedging losses. Sons of Gwalia was Australia's third-largest gold producer and also controlled more than half the world's production of tantalum.

Op dit eilandje ligt Leonora van Barchem (ook Eleonore/Elonora genoemd) begraven. Dit is te zien aan het monumentje in het midden met opschrit 'Leonora 1353'. De steen zou herinneren aan Vrouwe Leonora, die volgens de legende in 1353 uit liefdesverdriet op 19-jarige leeftijd in kasteel Staverden is gestorven. Zij schijnt volgens de legende daar nog steeds rond te dolen en te huilen in de nacht.

Following the collapse of the pit wall, (see earlier pic) a very expensive pump had to be retrieved and because of the collapse, the only way was to use a helicopter.

‘Tradescantia 'Leonora'’. Quite a common garden perennial this, also known as Spiderwort. Alan:-)……

366 - I’ve decided to do this to force me to pick up a camera other than when we are away on our travels (they will be posted as normal) - I will be interested to see what transpires, they will be varied I’m sure so we’ll see where inspiration takes me over the course of the year, hopefully at the end of it I will be a better photographer. Feel free to critique as you see fit, but please don’t feel obliged, I anticipate they will not be to all tastes.
