Cannaregio one of the six sestieri of Venice in Veneto, Italy.
Cannaregio is the northernmost of the six historic sestieri (districts) of Venice. It is the second largest sestiere by land area and the largest by population, with 13,169 people as of 2007. Isola di San Michele, the historic cemetery island, is associated with the district.
The Cannaregio Canal, which was the main route into the city until the construction of a railway link to the mainland, gave the district its name (Canal Regio is Italian for Royal Canal). Development began in the eleventh century as the area was drained and parallel canals were dredged. Although elegant palazzos were built facing the Grand Canal, the area grew primarily with working class housing and manufacturing. Beginning in 1516, Jews were restricted to living in the Venetian Ghetto.
It was enclosed by guarded gates and no one could leave from sunset to dawn. However, Jews held successful positions in the city such as merchants, physicians, money lenders, and other trades. Restrictions on daily Jewish life continued for more than 270 years, until Napoleon Bonaparte conquered the Venetian Republic in 1797. He removed the gates and gave all residents the freedom to live where they chose.
In the 19th century, civil engineers built a street named Strada Nuova through Cannaregio, and a railway bridge and road bridge were constructed to connect Venice directly to Mestre. Today, the areas of the district along the Grand Canal from the train station to the Rialto Bridge are packed with tourists, but the rest of Cannaregio is residential and relatively peaceful, with morning markets, neighbourhood shops, and small cafés.

this silly hand, which is flexible, belonged to my mom... I found it in a desk drawer and it called out to me... the perfect image for Macro Monday - Keychain...
I miss my mom so much... she is always with me.

She was so talented and an amazing seamstress... made all my clothes growing up and many bridal gowns and their wedding party... she could do just about anything.... and thankfully, I took after her... except for the sewing garments... but I've made a ton of quilts!

“Brilliance of silence” captures another moment of the same winter's day. This picture shows the Alpsee in its winter beauty, nestled in the quiet woods near Neuschwanstein Castle. The sun breaks through the snow-covered branches of a solitary tree and casts its golden light onto the smooth, misty surface of the water. A delicate mist rises from the lake, as if nature itself is breathing softly. The peaceful glow of winter is carried by a deep stillness that almost makes time stand still. This interplay of light, shadow and crystal-clear air lends the moment an almost magical aura - a moment that reflects the harmony between man, nature and the season.
I try to give my photos titles that briefly convey the first impression, sometimes it is difficult. I could have stood by this lake for hours that day, repeatedly changing the play of fog and clouds.
Have a nice start to the new week, I'm open to your opinion.

Having left our cases at the Hilton we wandered into York over the river Ouse via Lendal bridge looking for lunch. This pleasure boat was passing with very few passenger onboard. It is a tourist picture but there again we are on holiday.

Your eyes are considered a powerful tool for communicating and for making that special connection - for they can convey emotions, intentions, and thoughts without words.
Highlighting your eyes with eyeliner is an artform which goes back thousands of years. The [SENTINUS BEAUTY] Rachel Eyeliners Set (EVOX) captures the beauty of your eyes without over embellishment by lending the perfect statement with subtlety and sensual elegance. Its' HUD provides you with 5 different shades of subtle colors to choose from.
To enhance and frame my facial appearance, I selected [JUMO Originals] ELSA Earrings (with shine). I absolutely love June's mega HUD she includes which allows you to change both the color of the metal as well as the gems so you can complement both your wardrobe and cosmetic choices.
Both the [SENTINUS BEAUTY] Rachel Eyeliners Set (EvoX) and the [JUMO Originals] ELSA Earrings Set are available at the June SWANK Events "A Celebration of Color" Venue.
TAXI to SWANK EVENT:
Photography has been a bit quiet recently but today I braved a bitterly cold start to the day to capture the eel traps along the River Test in deepest Hampshire. This quaint little spot really lends itself to a frosty sunrise and I did get lucky with the frost and mist.
