When the forecast gives you lemons, you sometimes have to try and make lemonade. I was hoping that the partly cloudy skies would last. By the time I made it to this spot the wather had taking a turn in the wrong direction. The lights you see are a combination of Anchorage city lights, Aleyska ski slopes, and northern lights that are lighting the clouds.

Fresh Squeezed Lemonade made while you watch, the real thing like Mom made, found in North Carolina.
When life gives you lemons, make lemonade. That's exactly what I did on my recent impromptu photo walk around Melbourne's Southbank. It was a beautiful Autumn day, mild temperature, not a cloud in the sky, no wind and just a hint of haze in the air from a grass fire in the Western Suburbs. The sun was low and reflecting off the windows of the surrounding buildings. Rather than fight the bright light, I decided to increase my ISO and aperture. I found I could get some great sun drenched / washed out lighting effects.
Stratus clouds...Ugh! Flat, gray, uniform, filling the sky with Blah. Yes, I know, flat light is best for close-up and macro work, such as photographing flowers (not in February where I live!), and there are always pictures to be found or made, in any light. So, on yet another dully overcast day, when nature gave me lemons, I found a way to make...

I tried to get a shot with the black rims showing but people were in the background. So this is the best I could get. Best looking 458 I've seen.

I was a bit bummed last week. I was planning to take a workshop where I would be taking photos of the Milky Way on a barrier island off the coast of South Carolina. But the weekends rain and clouds forced postponement of the class. And, due to the cancellation policy of the condo some friends and I had rented, we wouldn't get much of our money back from that. So what did we do? We made lemonade from lemons, and we went to Charleston anyway. We didn't get any star photos, of course. The places and things we shot were very different, due to the weather. But we each came away with images we liked, such as this image of the Isle of Palms pier at a cloudy sunrise. And we had a great time. ;-)
