As railroads get more focused on short term gains, the corporate imagine doesn't matter much. The UP roster looks like its heading for the bottom, as there is a ton of garbage running around I've seen lately. As example a 70ACe leads this empty coal train near LeGrand on the Clinton Sub with a beautiful front door.

Avec la réalisation du Cube des quatre saisons et par son installation dans la ville, qui donne accès au plus grand nombre à cette création, je souhaite apporter une ouverture vers notre intériorité, un chemin vers ce pays à peine engourdi : l’enfance.
Les saisons qui rythment nos vies avec cet éternel retour d’un printemps attendu, nous sont consubstantielles. Le choix du sujet s’est imposé comme une évidence. Car qui peut nous apporter plus de joie que le jaune des jonquilles printanières, que le blanc éclos des flocons de l’hiver, que le bleu outremer profond d’un ciel d’été ou que le mordoré des feuilles d’un automne flamboyant."

Deze twee cartoonfiguren van Jean Legrand zijn de verpersoonlijking van de Namenaars. Van de inwoners van Namen zegt men namelijk dat ze traag zijn, ze hebben tijd zat. Daarom werden de slakken vastgebonden en in een kooi gestopt anders zouden zelfs deze trage dieren nog kans zien om tijdens het gesprek van Djoseph en Francwès te ontsnappen.
These two cartoon figures by Jean Legrand are the personification of the people of Namur. The inhabitants of Namur are said to be slow. That is why the snails are tied up and put in a cage, otherwise even these slow animals would still be able to escape during Djoseph and Francwès' conversation.

Bonjour Monsieur,
Merci, grand merci pour ces excellentes photos.
Vous possédez là un vrai Maurice Legrand, c'est indubitable mais en plus vous avez de la chance, c'est une très très belle toile. J'en serais presque jaloux :-).
Malheureusement il n'y a pas actuellement de cote officielle (ni autre) de la valeur des oeuvres de notre père. Nous avons relevé au fil du temps toutes sortes de prix, qui vont de quelques centaines d'euros sur certains site de vente aux enchères à plu sieur milliers d'euros dans des grandes salles de vente comme Christies à Paris.
Il y a beaucoup de collectionneurs (avertis) qui possèdent de nombreuses toiles de notre père. Et je reçois en moyenne une à deux requêtes d'information par semaine depus environ 3 ans. Preuve que le marché bouge.
Il y a assez bien de ventes faites à Anvers en Belgique, dans une grande salle de vente qui prise beaucoup les (vrais) Maurice Legrand.
Malheureusement il circule, sur le marché, des tonnes de faux legrand ,ou d'imitations qui ont été produites par un autre peintre Belge, du même nom - Legrand - et de la même époque. Cet autre Legrand a essayé tonte sa vie d'imiter ce que faisait notre père. Il était extrêmement jaloux de son succès. J'en possède moi-même l'un de ces copies.
Je pense que tôt ou tard la qualité du travail de notre père sera reconnue à sa juste valeur et que cette valeur va littéralement exploser.
Dans les années 60 Maurice à "travaillé" avec Picasso et Dali.
De nombreux musées de par le monde possèdent au moins une de ses toiles (non exposées).
Nous essayons de les répertorier, mais ce n'est pas facile.

"Un nom indissociablement lié à celui du cinéma, particulièrement celui du réalisateur Jacques Demy (les Parapluies de Cherbourg, les Demoiselles de Rochefort, Peau-d ’Ane…), ou de Claude Lelouch (Les Uns et les autres, Partir, revenir…), il a laissé pour le grand écran une œuvre de plus de 150 partitions. Le spectre musical qui fut le sien fut pourtant beaucoup plus vaste : baroque, valse populaire et be-bop, percussions latines et violons tziganes, pop music et romances pour crooners. Et le jazz évidemment. Fils de Raymond Legrand, un musicien autodidacte qui réalisa des arrangements pour l’orchestre de Ray Ventura et de Marcelle Der Mikaëlian, sœur de Jacques Hélian – dont l’ensemble de swing fut en France le plus populaire de l’après-guerre ; ancien élève de la légendaire Nadia Boulanger, il fut le directeur musical de Maurice Chevalier, l’orchestrateur de Jacques Canetti. Il dirigea John Coltrane, Bill Evans et Miles Davis ; joua avec Henri Salvador et Boris Vian, accompagna un très grand nombre de vedettes internationales. Il connut le succès aux Etats-Unis, où il récolta trois oscars (L’Affaire Thomas Crown, Un Eté 42, Yentl).
Il avait épousé un amour de jeunesse, l’actrice Macha Meril, dont l’identité est déjà indiquée sur le tombeau."

With the establishment of the Christian Society in LeGrand, a school was erected in about 1866. With increased class size, a larger school was needed and in 1878 a 100 x 40 foot three story brick building with a basement was begun. It contained a 60 x 40-foot addition that held 56 student’s rooms. It was called the "LeGrand Christian Institute” and was located two blocks south of Main Street on the west side of Webster Street. Financial problems caused the school to close in 1885. It reopened in 1889, renamed the "LeGrand Christian College". Still suffering financial problems, a major benefactor, H.A. Palmer gave a magnificent sum to the endowment of the school which was renamed "Palmer College" in 1897.
Whether named the Christian College or Palmer College, the school provided a high standard of Christian education. The 1891 Catalogue shows an attendance of 70. Students came from LeGrand, other communities in Iowa such as Wiota, Marengo, Thayer, Marshalltown, Ames, Washington and even Dundee, Scotland. The Normal Course of Study offered classes in English, Mathematics, History, Grammar, Psychology, Geology, Zoology, Latin or German, Geometry and Astronomy. The Scientific Course of Study added History of Greece and Rome, Cicero, Physics, Virgil, Mineralogy, International Law, French, Logic and Ethics. There was a Business, Music and Biblical Departments. All this for a tuition of $7.75 or $10.00 a term with music and business courses costing an additional $1.00 to $10.00.
Palmer College was moved to Albany, Missouri in 1912. When the Missouri college closed, records were forwarded to Defiance College, Defiance, Ohio.
After Elizabeth Allman began teaching school in her home, increased class size resulted in a frame school house being built in 1857. In 1871 a two-story brick structure was erected in the northeast part of town (in what is now the City Park).
With the beginning consolidation of schools a larger school was built in 1916 at the site of present high school. Now the school had 8 classrooms, an assembly hall, domestic science and manual training room, eight teachers and n enrollment of over 200 students. Children walked or rode horses to school or rode the horse-drawn school hack. In 1921 eleven graduating seniors met the day after commencement at the home of Matilda Jordebrek and made a pact that they would meet every year for a reunion. This was the beginning of the LeGrand Alumni Association that still meets today.
By 1923 this school had burned and the present building was completed in 1924. While awaiting the new building, classes were held in the old Palmer College building. In 1925 cars were used to transport students, the forerunners of today’s school buses. In 1939 the high school graduation class numbered 12 and high school yearbooks began being published. This building was updated in 1950-51 and 1978 with the addition of the gymnasium and shop building and later a science and home economics addition. Initial consolidation resulted in LDF or LeGrand, Dunbar and Ferguson. A highlight of the school was in 1969 when Mrs. Fosness’ drama group were extras in the movie, “Cold Turkey” starring Dick Van Dyke and filmed in Corning, Iowa. With the addition of the SEMCO (South East Marshall County) schools the school district is now known as East Marshall and has schools in Laurel, Ferguson, Gilman and LeGrand.

Avenue de l'Opéra
The Avenue de l'Opéra was created from 1864 to 1879 as part of Haussmann's renovation of Paris. It is situated in the center of the city, running northwest from the Louvre to the Palais Garnier, the primary opera house of Paris (until the opening of the Opéra Bastille in 1989).
The Avenue de l'Opéra was an important thoroughfare in Haussmann's traffic scheme, since it linked the rue de Rivoli at the Louvre to the grands boulevards near the Opéra and gave better access to the wealthy neighbourhoods being developed at that time in northwest Paris. It had the additional advantage that the demolition required for its construction cleared the area between the Louvre and the grand boulevards, which had been occupied by a slum district, dense with poor-quality housing and numerous narrow streets, that was considered unhealthy and dangerous.
At the avenue's northwest end, in front of the opera house, is the Place de l'Opéra. Besides providing a setting for the imposing Palais Garnier, it is a nexus from which several streets radiate. At the time it was built, it was criticized for being too grandiose, but now with much more traffic, it is often considered too small. Elegant stores selling luxury leather goods and jewelry, and the Café de la Paix, are located here.
The avenue itself is very popular with tourists and is lined with shops selling fancy souvenir Parisian merchandise (articles de Paris), as well as travel agencies and banks. A small Japanese district is nearby, in the rue Sainte-Anne.
Unlike most Parisian avenues, there are no trees. This was the result of a compromise between Haussmann and Charles Garnier, the architect of the opera house, who desired the best view possible of the main facade of the Opera at the end of the avenue. He did not want the view to be obstructed by the leaves and branches.
At the avenue's southeast end, near the Louvre, is the Place André Malraux, named after the French writer André Malraux, who had been Minister of Cultural Affairs under Charles de Gaulle. The square was formerly known as the Place du Théâtre Français, after the theatre of the Comédie-Française, which is located here. Adjacent to the theatre is the Palais-Royal, famous for its gardens.
