This is the other side of the bridge over the Cromford Canal in the shot I posted a few weeks ago.

I hope you think it is sufficiently good to post in its own right.

The main reason I am on Flickr is to be inspired by other people's work and receive constructive criticism on my own, please leave me a comment - however small - and don't be afraid to criticise. Thanks

I like both of these. Different mood. Different light. Same day. Same theme.

Apparently I don't just think religion can look ominous under the right sky. Add politics and law. I see this from the interstate all the time. Every time I try think of a way to shoot it. Of course a sign like that NEEDS to be shot. Right?

Lately, with the storms, I've been letting the sky dictate shots. Maybe that sounds a little crazy, but I've been bucking rules I've learned because of the sky. I've been shooting facing the sun and such.

Anyway, it turns out the sky is my muse. When the sky is right I don't care about anything else. Seriously. Most of my best shots where on days I "listened" to the sky...

Thanks to Lee for taking a look at these. I was having trouble editing myself and deciding between this and the one below. I've decided to post both for for different reasons. This one conveys the mood I wanted which at the end of the day means it wins, but I wanted to post the other because the sky is beautiful.

Below is the other take for easy comparison. Which is better???

I've been having a hard time finding motivation after a long day to still come up with a shot for the 52 weeks project. I envy Lee and Kim for their joint venture, as Elisa is a food addict and camera shy and she won't get off her buttom to join me.

So yesterday when I was looking for a shot just to get me back in action, I realized I I had Tom Jones' Delilah stuck in my head, and that's all it took.

So after about a 8 weeks' break, back on track. Who said 52 weeks have to be consecutive?

Shot from the high peak trail as 5 individual images and then hugin'd together. I tried to balance the definition in the scene with 'Levels' in order to maximise the detail but not over do it.

I've also uploaded a crop of this image in a vertical format.

The shadow on this track is cast by one of the beautiful local field barns. I haven't seen much detail recently but there is a big project to try and save them from general decline. Many of these old, small barns are falling into disrepair as they are now obsolete from modern farming techniques. There's one in this shot but in the coming months I'll try and take a picture where the Barn is the main interest.

This was taken perhaps 25 miles south of the previous one. The Pacific fog was so thick that I couldn't see the ocean or the coastline, except for one tree. This was a perfect scene for me to try something different ("Experimental Monday"). I decided to go with a high-contrast minimalist approach, inspired by Lee and Mick.

Following on from yesterday's post, here's a view of the whole thing. The main thing that bothers me in this one is my shadow on the steps but cropping it out loses some of the height and majesty of the steps so I left it in.

What do you think of this one? I've got three more shots of the cross to post (including my favourite) - but I'll post something different next.

One of the things I've been up to over the last few weeks is reviewing 2008. I've put together a Blurb book - I'll get it ordered soon. There are a number of pictures and themes that I'll share with you over the coming days.

I spent a few weeks last year visiting and revisiting a cross that sits at the centre of the village trying to get a pictures of it that hadn't been shot by every walker who visits the village. You may have seen the base of it in one of my earliest pictures on Flickr but I wanted to some more artistic images of this intriguing monument.

Enough drivel - here's the first of the good ones. I'll post some more later. If anyone's interested!

Those storm clouds only provided a little rain. Wedged between them and the sun was this rainbow. This is four images hugin'd together. I tried to find a spot with some foreground interest and failed miserably - so I thought I'd use the fence and my shadow to try and help out.

A crop of this one to highlight the sheep and the bird flying by. I've been inspired by a number of tall vertical images on Flickr recently.

Shame about the thumbnail - not exactly representative but hey.

Three shot stitch in Hugin.

Continuing the theme of the Bonsall Cross. It's hard to see the bars of the cross - but then short of turning the stonework - I'm not sure how to counter that and keep the sky. Looking at it now I also feel it needs a bit more sky above the top of the cross.
