Abstract
Incidence of type II diabetes is rapidly increasing worldwide. In order to identify complementary or alternative approaches to existing medications, we studied anti-diabetic properties of Vaccinium angustifolium Ait., a natural health product recommended for diabetes treatment in Canada. Ethanol extracts of root, stem, leaf, and fruit were tested at 12.5 mg/ml for anti-diabetic activity in peripheral tissues and pancreatic b cells using a variety of cell-based bioassays. Specifically, we assessed: (1) deoxyglucose uptake in differentiated C2C12 muscle cells and 3T3-L1 adipocytes; (2) glucose-stimulated insulin secretion (GSIS) in b TC-tet pancreatic b cells; (3) b cell proliferation in b TC-tet cells; (4) lipid accumulation in differentiating 3T3-L1 cells; (5) protection against glucose toxicity in PC12 cells. Root, stem, and leaf extracts significantly enhanced glucose transport in C2C12 cells by 15–25% in presence and absence of insulin after 20 h of incubation; no enhancement resulted from a 1 h exposure. In 3T3 cells, only the root and stem extracts enhanced uptake, and this effect was greater after 1 h than after 20 h; uptake was increased by up to 75% in absence of insulin. GSIS was potentiated by a small amount in growth-arrested b TC-tet cells incubated overnight with leaf or stem extract. However, fruit extracts were found to increase 3H-thymidine incorporation in replicating b TC-tet cells by 2.8-fold. Lipid accumulation in differentiating 3T3-L1 cells was accelerated by root, stem, and leaf extracts by as much as 6.5-fold by the end of a 6-day period. Stem, leaf, and fruit extracts reduced apoptosis by 20–33% in PC12 cells exposed to elevated glucose for 96 h. These results demonstrate that V. angustifolium contains active principles with insulin-like and glitazone-like properties, while conferring protection against glucose toxicity.
ean Sarrail made the first flight of the aircraft on December 26, 1956. After having made 140 flights and reaching Mach 1.15, the program was stopped at the end of 1957. This revolutionary aircraft incorporated a large number of innovations: drop-tight capsule, such as the Apollo capsule, wing machined in the mass (world first), air intake with porous wall, first use of titanium in France.
Edmonton Kenworth is now operating a major, new full-service dealership with 42 service bays in Leduc, Alberta. The new dealership is on 16 acres at 8202 42nd Street near the Edmonton International Airport. It features an 111,500-square-foot main building with an indoor showroom large enough for customers to view up to four Kenworth trucks out of the elements.

Before WW2,brilliant Engineer René Leduc had a project for an airplane powered by a ramjet. This project could really develop after the war only.Due to absence of thrust when motionless ,to obtain initial speed necessary for engine startup,Leduc had the idea to install his aircraft on top of a modified SE-161 Languedoc.
November 19/1946,the so called composite took off from Blagnac airport (Toulouse). It took several months before 010 could be released in free flight ,which occured on Oct 21/1947.April 21/1949,after being released two times for gliding, historical flight took place, establishing climb using only ramjet power.
11,000 meters could be reached in few minutes as well as Mach 0,85 !.
René Leduc could no longer face alone the experience, therefore he created a company in Paris area and signed some governmental contarcts.A second 010 was built. Then, due to strong meteo constraints, flight test program was moved south in Istres.A 016 prototype, powered by two wingtip additional engines was tested, but rapidly cancelled as too delicate to develop.
The flight program was severely affected by the crash of the two 010,so 016 was used as a replacement joined by two larger 021 .016 joined the museum in 1953 ,then the two 021 performed 385 flights ,including 248 free flights.
Not only the fact to use ramjet,Leduc airplanes were also using numerous innovations, such as jettisoning cabin, hydraulic servos, use of titane, wings milled in mass,etc...
022 accomplished first flight in 1956,using a central turbojet (ATAR 101 D2)in addition to the ramjet. So ,it could take off alone ,without assstance of a transporter aircraft.141 flights were performed.Mach 1,15 ,ceiling over 20,000 M ,with capability for Mach 2.
Budget issues ,progress of afterburners,in conjunction with too many other national projects( Trident,Gerfaut,Durandal,Baroudeur,Griffon...),the program was stoped in 1958,opening the door for... Dassault Mirage III ,but this is another story !

This oil well near Leduc was the first in the province of Alberta, apparently. It's joined by a few others.

« Le projet consiste à concevoir une ligne de couleur qui se poursuivra en hauteur de l’installation qui tel un échafaudage érigé dans une ligne descendante se terminera par un amoncellement de matériaux divers, formant une spirale au sol.
La couleur recouvrant la dite ligne, contient le témoignage de l’hommage que je veux rendre au peintre Ozias Leduc. L’installation proprement dite, personnifie pour sa part, les échafaudages que le peindre escalada sa vie durant. »

Note the modified headlights - these were what the 3rd generation LFS headlights were based on. The picture of this one on CPTDB still showed the bus with its original headlights. The most significant difference between a suburban and a regular LFS is the lack of a rear door, allowing for more coach-like seats.
This is my first picture of a Novabus LFS operated by an operator outside Quebec.
