Haven’t been out in the field much recently, so here is a picture from a few years back - a Fringe-lipped Bat - Trachops cirrhosis - from Chan Chich Lodge in Belize. It’s not a particularly interesting or compelling effort - but it turns out to be of at least minor importance.
By way of background, there are lots of environmentalists and scientists looking for images to illustrate their projects and flickr is an important searching ground. That’s one reason why I make a careful effort to title and tag my wildlife photos with as much data as possible.
In this case, a postdoctoral fellow in Central America needed a picture of Fringe-lipped Bat. In the last few days she was able to find in my photo stream the one I’ve put in the comments section below. On an off chance, she also asked via flickrmail if I had any images of this species showing an orange crust on its wings. The article she is writing concerns this component of the species’s physiology - apparently something related to its mating habits.
I didn’t recall any such thing, but did take a look through my Lightroom catalog. Sure enough, I found the above image from the same photoshoot. When I processed it and forwarded it to the researcher, she was ecstatic. Her joy in having an image perfect for her purposes gave me a nice feeling as well.

Young monks in Bhutanese monasteries learn to play the dungchen, or Tibetan horn, as part of traditional music and dance programs, along with subjects like Buddhist philosophy and meditation. This long brass or copper trumpet is an important instrument in Tibetan culture, and is typically played in pairs with one horn playing a drone while the other plays the melody. The dungchen is used in Tibetan Buddhist ceremonies and rituals, and is believed to have spiritual and ceremonial significance. It is often used in processions and other religious events, as well as in secular music. The sound of the horn is powerful and is said to be able to reach great distances, used to call the attention of deities during religious ceremonies.
By learning to play the dungchen, young monks help to preserve Bhutanese cultural heritage and prepare to serve their communities. This picture was taken at Paro Dzong, the administrative seat of Paro district in Bhutan, where the instrument is displayed as part of the Dzong's treasured collection – Paro, Bhutan

Clearly, some of our younger squirrels have a LOT to learn when it comes to stashing nuts away for the winter months.
We see them grabbing a nut, whole or shelled, and then hurrying off to bury it. But more often than not, just a mere arm's length away from the Goodie Bowl they found it in! Or they'll even bury it in any random place they can find - like between this owl garden statue and giant mushroom statue, seen here!
The places are usually so random it seems impossible that they'll remember where they buried those nuts in a few months. More than likely, other squirrels have happened across those nuts and eagerly snatched them up right then and there.
And don't get me started on all those nuts, and trees or vines we find in our outdoor potted plants. But on second thought, perhaps that makes more sense because they are fixed locations. LOL!
