You may call it Returning Monsoon or Local Low Pressure; I call it Rain in Early Spring. It’s raining from last night, not much; just drizzle but non stop drizzle. Temp is a soothing 20 - 22˚C. In such a day I enjoy looking out from my Office Window and look at this Neem Tree.

This tree was planted by my Mother though you don't have to plant a Neem tree in this part of the world 'coz they shoot up at every impossible corner; birds love its fruits.

We, Indians use every part of this tree - from the time of Rama, the Twig is used as Tooth Brash ;-) that’s why in the morning people of Northern part of India takes a twig in their mouth and starts singing Ram Dhoon ( Songs in the praise of Lord Rama) while walking towards the Field and chewing the twig time to time. It tastes bitter, very bitter but the juice kills bacteria; that’s true. Now, Bio- Chemists are saying that Neem Twig is good for Oral Hygiene so there is bee line for the patent of Neem Tree. I call it Rhapsody of Absurdity - Man claiming the Ownership of Nature's Creation. Well on that logic, Africa ( Ethiopia) can go for the Patent of Human Being and ask for a premium Royalty on every child birth, in such a case what will happen to the economy of India and China !!!

Any way that’s another story, what I was telling you is Neem or Margosa. Portuguese people used to call this tree Margosa. During spring - summer there was/ is always an increase of Dermatological problem in this tropical country. To stem that problem Neem Leaves are boiled in water and that water is used in bath, especially for bathing the babies. Now, Bio-Chemists are saying " Neem Leaves got anti-bacterial property". Adults can use a soap made from Neem Leaf extract. The bark of Neem goes to make Bio-Pesticide and I am telling you it works very well.

Ask any sculpture he will tell you that Neem wood is rodent proof, termite proof, great to work with :-) that’s why the Idol of Lord Jagannath ( Puri temple) is made from Neem Wood only. Vaisnavites have a special attachment with this tree and wood, every Khole (Percussion musical instrument) has to be made with Neem Wood otherwise it’s not a Khole.

There is another side of Neem tree; you can say the Bramhodatti or Ghost side of Neem. Those incredible Bramhodatti's or Male Ghosts who got 7 ft long legs, they always sit on Neem trees and swing their legs, they sing Classical Nonsense songs in nasal tone. If you don't believe me then on a Moon-less night please go under a Neem tree at the stroke of Mid-night. Remember, only he/she can hear the songs who has never told a lie.
