Black Skimmer getting ready to feed its chick... Please excuse the clutter in shot...Couldnt isolate the subjects...too many Skimmers! (...a GREAT problem to have!) :>)
Thanks for looking...
This mama turkey has brought her little ones into the woods near my house three days in a row! I was very surprised to find them hiding under plants in a garden near the bird feeders on Sunday! I am hoping to get better shots in the near future, but am posting this now so you can get an idea how cute they are.
This Derby to Neville Hill route learner has been around for a few weeks now, but its the first time I've picked up on it. Brightening up Woodburn Junction the celebrity HST heads into Sheffield

Spanish Imperial Eagle (Aquila adalberti) juvenile Spain_9176
A rare eagle breeding only in Spain and Portugal, with some immatures dispersing into North Africa.
Very similar to the closely-related Imperial Eagle, but is darker overall and adults have a distinctive white leading wing edge on the shoulders which can been seen from below when flying. Juveniles (as here) are rufous and largely un-streaked on the upper-wings, underwings, and the breast compared to the heavily streaked Imperial Eagles.
Mostly found in remote forested landscapes, especially those with a high density of rabbits.
Here's a confession.
I'm an on the go type of guy.
I can't sit still.
I feel like I have to always be doing something.
Here's to learning to relax.
Key word, learning.

There have been a good number of house finches around the last few days, and at least some purple finches, which is a new development in the yard. Anyway, it's made me have to look a lot harder and closer at the birds I'm seeing. I think, based on the white streaks on these birds heads and the darkness of their streaking, that they're purple finches, but I'm far from confident. Olympia, Washington, USA.
this creation came from a shoot yesterday .. my son and i were jumping on the bed.. fun!!! and i made the background using a picture of mountains in colorado where my borther lives and a field of poppies i found on the internet!!! :)
my son has not been napping consistently or for very long, so this means changes are necessary in my rules for my 365... i don't want to quit the project..but i am going to loosen my requirements.. since i rarely get use of that free chunk of time in the afternoon..i am just going to have to try my best to take a picture and whether or not i do a lengthy manipulation will have to depend on my son's needs..
:) i'm trying hard not to be disappointed about making huge changes with my stream.. but in a way i think it will help me grow as a photographer to try and come up with interesting shots that don't need much processing... but don't get me wrong..if i find the time to process a photo.. i certainly will! ... since it is one of my greatest joys and forms of expression... just wanted to give a head's up about where my stream might be heading..
:)
also will check in with my friend's streams later tonight.. have to post this and run unfortunately
special thanks to JoesSistah for the radical wings!!!
big love xoxoxoxo
You don't learn to walk by following rules. You learn by doing, and by falling over.

Sydney's first ballet class. This was taken shortly before she left the class. She only made it 10 minutes into the 45 minute class before giving up. I think it was too overwhelming for her being in there with the big kids. It didn't help that Jessie kept giving her instruction...haha. I kept telling Jessie to let the instructor give her guidance, but Jessie being the teacher that she is, kept telling Sydney what to do.
Next week, we will make sure she is in an age appropriate class. :)

These 2 juvenile Osprey were practicing flying. They didn't leave the nest... just up and down. They will be gone soon though.

I have photos of horses to work from. Thank you Johny.
Have you ever tried to draw a horses head? Easy? Oh yeh... Try drawing the nose for the first time! But I am learning. Wearing out my eraser, and have a long way to go, but I am learning, (I think) These are my first three horses!

Sarah, trying out her legs! She's doing pretty well, huh?

While at Echo Amphitheater in Abiquiú, I shot some infrared.
I've tended to process my infrareds to black and white as I never felt satisfied with my attempts at false color processing with channel swapping.
I've been learning more this past year about working with color prior to converting to black and white.
In the first comment box below is the unedited shot, pretty much all brown. Shot through the Hoya R72, 720 nm filter. The custom white balance that I had set keeps it from being totally magenta.
As has been my common result, using the Channel Mixer adjustment layer and swapping values for the red and blue channels wasn't great.
I've been learning what the Selective Color adjustment layer does, so opened that under the Channel Mixer layer.
It allowed me to play with how much red, yellow, green, blue, cyan and magenta are within colors and thereby fine tune what the Channel Mixer does.
Things were better.
Then I opened a Hue/Saturation adjustment layer above Channel Mixer and found that playing with the Master and moving the Hue slider helped too.
After working on tonal ranges, using midtone luminosity masks on curves layers and dodging and burning, I still didn't like how much purple was in the sky.
I tried the Select Color command to isolate the sky and that created a mask when I opened the Color Balance adjustment layer. Mostly working on shadows and midtones to reduce red, increase blue and increase green got the deep blue color.
I've been learning about the Hard Mix blend mode, and after using the color picker to grab the color of the trees, I opened a Color Fill adjustment layer, set it to Hard Mix and then reduced the Fill opacity to 7%. This enhanced the tree color.
Finally, I got a false color infrared that actually had definite color.
Why did I do all this?
This extreme edit became the underlying base to a black and white version of the shot. All the color stuff I've been learning was part of tutorials on processing for BW.
Barring unforeseen circumstances, I hope to post that on Thursday for Donnerstagsmonochrom.
Happy Sliders Sunday!
