During todays Sea Safari we came across a pod of feeding dolphins and managed to snap this shot of a Salmon leaping for its life whilst being hunted by a Short Beaked Common Dolphin. Notice the blood drops from a further victim.

I spend days and days on the water photographing marine and coastal wildlife. I can honestly say this is a once in a lifetime shot.

Leaping menhaden present varying angled surfaces to the light of the nascent sunrise as they flee the deadly pincers of a Tri-colored Heron feeding on Armand Bayou.

Two bottle-nosed dolphins soar through the air in Fiordlands National Park, New Zealand. These two were part of a pod of at least 25 individuals that cavorted together for several minutes. They were maybe working in unison to corral a school of fish for their consumption. To their right you can see trails in the water left by other dolphins as they skim along on the surface. They would pick up speed, sudden disappear below the surface and then explode from the water; so maybe it's all just for fun.

I had a week away, part of which I spent back in the Blue Mountains, around 100 km west of Sydney.

A place of staggering beauty and wonder. Such peace, solace and joy when there. The silence, the quiet. The deep love, appreciation and immersion in nature.

This is part of the view of the Grose Wilderness as seen from a bush track near Govetts Leap lookout.

Grose Wilderness is named for Lieutenant Governor Major Francis Grose. In 1793 he sent William Paterson on an expedition to see if the river provided a navigable route through the Blue Mountains.

The Blue Mountains Area is a UNESCO World Heritage site, consisting of 1 million hectares of national park and wilderness dominated by temperate eucalypt forest. The area supports an incredible range of biodiversity.

There are six First Nation groups that have connection to the Country of the Area, for thousands of years tied as it is with Dreaming and ancestry. These are the Darug, Gundungurra, Wiradjuri, Wanaruah, Darkinjung and Tharawal peoples.

Squirrel visits to the garden have been few and far between for the last few weeks, mainly due to the availability of hazelnuts in the local area. However, this week has seen the return of two individuals one of which has worked out how to use the new feeder and the 'requirement' to leap from a strategically placed old branch. I imagine I will have some fun trying to capture the perfect 'in-flight' images once I have worked out which camera settings work best.

This 'pre-launch' shot will do for now as the camera (or more likely, the user) didn't manage to keep the focus in the right place once the squirrel was airborne.

Salto cualitativo:

Ya no solo por cambiar de montaña: Kilimanjaro, el techo de Africa con 5892m;

ni de continente: Africa;

Qualitative leap:

Not only by change of mountain: Mount Kilimanjaro, the roof of Africa with 5892m;

nor continent: Africa;

but also the new acquisition at the end of 2015: my new camera full frame NIKON D750.

Without a doubt a great qualitative leap.

2016 meant a big change in my photography with the help of a photography course at the end of that year.

I hope you notice this change and you'll constructively criticize my work. Always, I try to improve and learn from everything and everyone.

A sculpture at the Tsawwassen Mills mall on the Tsawwassen First Nations land in Delta, B.C. I take it that is an abstracted view of the life giving salmon that are so vital to the British Columbia ecosystem.

This photo was taken on one of the days that wildfire smoke from the Interior drifted down and covered Metro Vancouver; hence the grey sky.

Well may be leap ladybird

A few months back, I decided to no longer post on Flickr because my work wasn't showing in people's feeds. Forward to today, I decided I might try posting here again to see if things are fixed. But this work is just not showing *anywhere* because the Flickr caching servers are freaking out - again! I can't see it, my friends can't see it, probably some of you can't see it. I feel like Flickr is so plagued with issues all the time, I just can't live with it anymore. So this is probably my last work for the next few months. I'm looking for an alternative. I might try Deviantart but I'm not sure yet.

At a nearby pond, this frog attempted to snatch a large dragonfly out of the air. She came up empty-mouthed.

It was quite interesting to watch the frogs hunt their prey. Mating dragonflies, which hovered low and tapped the water, immediately drew the frog's attention. It was difficult at times to know when a frog would strike. I have to be just as patient as the frogs while trying to catch a shot. Going to head back out this week to see if I can get more leaping action.

Pat the photographer wanted to commemorate this special *extra* day that comes only once every 4 years. His flexible friend, a sock monkey aptly enough named Socko, happily did the exuberant leaping for the photo shoot........Pat and Socko do feel badly for those who have 2/29 as their official birthday.

A snow leopard (Panthera unica) leaps down a cliff face and pounces on something in the fresh snow, sending the snow flying. This POV shows to advantage her very long bushy tail that helps with balance on rough terrain and can be wrap around her body for extra warmth. It can also be used for fat storage.

More bridals . . . . she had to wait until the END of the session to tell me she could leap like this and in her wedding dress no less . . . sigh . . . . it was still fantastic!

Editing here is just my soft color pop action. And the bride was lit with a flash off-camera left.

I was sitting by the field where it was hunting and was pleased as it moved closer and closer to me. I cropped this only slightly and struggled to keep him in the frame.

I was slowly creeping up to the little frog on the left taking pictures as I crept, when the one on the right jumped into the scene. Gotta love when that happens....

Esteemed sculptor Marshall M. Fredericks (1908-1998) won a National Award Competition, and the commission to create a sculpture for the Levi Barbour Memorial Fountain in 1936. This was his first paid commission.

The "Leaping Gazelle" is one of his most famous, and the most duplicated of his works. The 16 foot (4.9m) bronze statue stands on a granite base. As gazelles are not found in Michigan, he fashioned smaller granite sculptures of native animals that surround the base of the fountain (otter, grouse, hawk, and rabbit).

This exquisite sculpture is found on Belle Isle, an island park in the Detroit River, Detroit, Michigan. It is my favorite of all the Fredericks' sculptures that I have seen.

The energetic dolphins from the Loro Parque show in Puerto de la Cruz, Tenerife. I've still got something like 1035 photos to check through. Once I've deleted about 1000 of them I might have a few photos worth posting. That was a lot of photos on a single memory card.

I've been told that this shot made Explore. Well that's my first Explore shot since June 2010! Does that mean I've been allowed off the naughty step and now qualify for Explore shots again? 2008 - 83? Explores, 2009 - 105? Explores, 2010 - 5? Explores and now 2011 - 1 Explore.

Oh my goodness I am so excited. I think I have my groove back. This shoot was lovely and such a pleasure to do.
