Today is leapday and the sun made an attempt to rise, but was imediately caught in a cloudbank.
So much for that leap.

“Today is an ephemeral ghost...
A strange amazing day that comes only once every four years. For the rest of the time it does not "exist."
In mundane terms, it marks a "leap" in time, when the calendar is adjusted to make up for extra seconds accumulated over the preceding three years due to the rotation of the earth. A day of temporal tune up!
But this day holds another secret—it contains one of those truly rare moments of delightful transience and light uncertainty that only exist on the razor edge of things, along a buzzing plane of quantum probability...
A day of unlocked potential.
Will you or won't you? Should you or shouldn't you?
Use this day to do something daring, extraordinary and unlike yourself. Take a chance and shape a different pattern in your personal cloud of probability!”

Cropped image from my first trip to Ollantaytambo in January 2005, conveying a sense of the steepness of the high-walled terraces.
Looking across Cascade Pond at a cloudy Cascade Mountain with the thin falls that gave the mountain it's name.
Cascade is the highest mountain adjacent to the Banff townsite. James Hector gave this massive mountain it's name in 1858.
Cascade Falls is a beautiful 985 ft (300 m) grade 3 ice climb that some say is the most popular ice climb in the Rockies.
Happy Leap Day!
Have a wonderful weekend!
Pat the photographer wanted to commemorate this special *extra* day that comes only once every 4 years. His flexible friend, a sock monkey aptly enough named Socko, happily did the exuberant leaping for the photo shoot........Pat and Socko do feel badly for those who have 2/29 as their official birthday.

Happy February 29th everyone. I have always been partial to this phenomenon, I guess because it happens in my birth month, and I am definitely partial to the month of February. Maybe too because of its infrequency, sort of similar to why I like the Olympic games so much, they happen so seldom. I wanted to post something that was more leap day-ish, but then I don't know exactly what that is. Heh. I will be carrying my cameras with me today though, so I will be keeping an eye and mind out for something that I can use the next time around. ;-)
Enjoy your extra day in February!
Happy Leap Day friends... this is so old but I wanted to join in on the jumping fun over here today :)

If there is anything I learned about myself during the first year of this 365 stuff, it's that I totally suck at jumping. I never actually uploaded a jumping shot because that's how bad I suck at it.
I really wanted to do this 'leaping for leap day' thingy and had so many visions in my head, but the sad truth is that it's just not possible for me to accomplish those visions. Especially today.
That 2 1/2 mile walk we did two days ago . . . it broke me. My leg joints hurt, even when I'm sitting still. Especially my knees. From 2 1/2 miles. Pathetic, I know. Anyhow, the measely jump that I did manage to accomplish for today (using my bed, of course, so I was more than 2 inches off the ground) wasn't exactly easy, but it's the best I can do.
At least I do Urban Acid well! :D
The knees ain't great and the jump shot --fuhgedduboutit, but for Friday and February's four-year adjustment, even aging men can take to the air. [No feet or small dogs were injured in the filming of this shot]
About Nine and a half years ago I proposed to him.
Actually, he likes to refer to it as the "Burrito Ultimatum" when over lunch I asked him if after one and a half years of dating we were ever going to get married.
He accepted.
We got a ring.
We set a date for September of 2000... I thought it would be funner to get hitched on Leap Day.
He agreed.
We planned our reception in three days.
We really only celebrate every four years.
But...
Happy Anniversary none the less.
It's Friday, February 29th! What more reason do we need??? Out front, for the whole neighborhood to see!
Happy Leap Day!
I'm just exhausted... mentally, emotionally, physically... and really that's all it is: exhaustion, due to absolutely no recharge time whatsoever, for the last two+ weeks!

Aaah what a brilliant day. Leap Day!
You know the quote, not sure who it's by, but it goes "do ___ because you can" - it really reminds me of how lucky we all are to be able to do everything we can do.
It's so easy to take for granted a safe country, or a good area to live in which is safe, or your health, your love of life... so much to appreciate and be grateful for. Even when striving for better.
I hope you're all well - it's been sometime since my last jump, but I promise there's a lot of new stuff on the way!

Skydiver Steve is excited for "Leap Day"--February 29! This pose, seen as he has leaped from the door of his airplane. Have a great time!
And a special "Happy Birthday" to all who can claim Feb 29 as the date of their actual birthdays! Celebrate the day, but use judgment if skydiving is on your list to do on this year's birthday).
