The Leaning Tower of Pisa and the duomo, both on the Field of Miracles, seen from the Museo dell'Opera del Duomo (museum of the cathedral) in Pisa.

The cathedral (duomo) was built in Pisa after the city was involved in successful battles against the Saracens. Construction was begun in 1063, by Bushetto, and construction took place over the next century, with the consecration taking place in 1118.

The cathedral has the floorplan of a Latin cross and contains Arab and Byzantine elements in its construction, reflecting the naval dominance of Pisa at the time.

The Leaning Tower of Pisa (Torre Pendente) was started in 1173 as the bell tower (campanile) for the neighbouring cathedral (Duomo).

It started to lean when the third storey was added in 1274 and various attempts were made between then and its completion to stop the lean. All they did was make it more and more banana shaped.

Galileo took full advantage of the lean of the tower to conduct his experiments into gravity on its overhang.

It kept leaning further and further and was shut down in the 1990s because it was unsafe. Engineers worked their magic though and managed to correct some of the lean and make it accessible once more.

Lean Startup Guayaquil

Lean on me, when you're not strong

And I'll be your friend

I'll help you carry on

For it won't be long

'Til I'm gonna need

Somebody to lean on

I’m sure most would agree that we all need a leaning post every now and then - someone, or something, to take the weight off.

Unfortunately, what we generally tend to lean on is someone or something that will fall over sooner or later.

Yoga wisdom suggests that instead of depending on flimsy material arrangements, we lean instead on nonmaterial sound, particularly the maha-mantra: Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare/ Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare.

Why?

Because it’s absolutely dependable, in all times and places, for everyone.

This is so because this special sonic leaning post immediately connects us, the individual consciousness, to our ultimate source, the supreme consciousness.

This connection is called “yoga.”

Once reconnected to our original source, known in Sanskrit as Krishna, we can then positively process any and all of life’s challenges, and also make progress to its ultimate goal.

Cranking up the old Mamiya. Not bad colours for a film 3 years out of date that's been sitting undeveloped in the fridge for nearly a year. Scanning always seems to lose some sharpness and clarity though. Or maybe it's just me...
