======================================================

The nomenclature of A. blitum is somewhat confused, with several Linnean names involved, and needs further molecular and biogeographical studies to resolve the taxonomic issues.

The names A. blitum and A. lividus were both described by Linnaeus (1753), but their use has changed over time, revealing disagreement amongst authors.

Phao Keopaseuth, whose wife Leum Sengsavang and seven children lives in a home overlooking several hectares of cabbage patch. As with others in the region, irrigation and a second-hand tractor have increased yields dramatically. Pak Xong village once produced only about 200 tons of cabbage per year. The average is now roughly 2,500 tons, according to village headmen. Since 2006, farmers have increasingly grown niche products that fetch desirable prices abroad, namely organic cabbages shipped to Thailand.

A selfie in the cabbage stall- the chap moved away when he saw me with my camera- he had just set us shop and was generally too busy catching up on his texting. This and the next few pictures are of fresh produce in the historic Sheki market, and as I could not find any specific information about this market, I will save you the commentary as we go along and let you simply enjoy the sights of fresh produce and the market stalls. Someone was suggesting that this market probably dates back to the days of the ancient Silk Road, but I personally think that is stretching it a bit too far! Historic yes, but maybe not that historic! (Instagram image, taken with my iPhone 6+ is less than ideal lighting conditions.) (Sheki, Azerbaijan, Sept. 2017)
