The grain has always fascinated me, may be its history, so bound to the one of the human being, or may be its shape, so much symmetrical and regular. Everytime I pass close to a field of grain I surprise myself quite hypnotized; today was a day with heavy clouds close to my home, and when I noticed this field so green under a sky so leaden, with that strange path in the middle, I could not resist.

"Gli animali furono imperfetti, lunghi di coda, plumbei di testa, piano piano si misero in ordine, divennero paesaggio, acquistarono nèi grazia volo, il gatto, soltanto il gatto, apparve completo e orgoglioso, nacque completamente rifinito, cammina solo, e sa quello che vuole.(Pablo Neruda)

"The animals were imperfect, long of tail, leaden of head, slowly they were put in order, they became landscape, they acquired nèi grace flight, the cat, only the cat, appeared complete and proud, born completely refined, walks alone, and knows what he wants (Pablo Neruda)

A long-tailed, slender songbird with fine bill. Males rich blue-gray above, white below, with a blue-gray bib with convex lower edge (curves upward at the edges). Crown paler than throat, lending male a bearded appearance in optimal light. Male Satin Flycatcher has uniformly dark head, blackish (not grayish) tail feathers, and concave bib edge. Female paler blue-gray above, with pale orange throat and breast. Inhabits varied woodlands, perches high in the canopy, often shakes the tail rapidly. Song a repeated two-note whistle; call a loud buzzing “zerp.” (eBird)

We found this female sitting on her beautifully crafted nest. Every so often, she would indulge in a little bit of nest tidying, moving a piece of leaf or bark from one spot to another.

Glastonbury Abbey, a Benedictine monastery. Founded in the 7th century, enlarged in the 10th. Rebuilt after major fire in the 14th. Then finally disolved during the dissolution of the monasteries around 1539. The bodies of King Arthur and his queen were found interred in the abbey cemetery in 1191 and they were moved to a site of veneration in the main church. According to Giraldus, a medieval historian, there was a leaden cross with the unmistakably specific inscription Hic jacet sepultus inclitus rex Arthurus in insula Avalonia ("Here lies interred the famous King Arthur on the Isle of Avalon" found with the bones. Rumours are that this was a marketing ploy to bring in more money. Either way, Glastonbury is as good a place as any to remember the once and future king.

Leaden sky and furious waves.

On our way to Eggum on the Lofoten islands we passed by this beautiful inland lake which looked all dark and monochrome with those leaden skies and when we already wanted to continue our journey, the clouds broke open and displayed a piece of blue sky which reflected gorgeously in the semi-frozen lake.

Early March in Michigan often presents unpredictable weather conditions, sometimes moderate, sometimes windy, and sometimes cold and icy.

But Michigan experiences the full range of the four seasons, a beauty I love to experience.

A beautiful summer day says goodbye with the last rays of sunshine.

Bunnfjorden. Norway.

The trees along the Derwent Valley were clad in magical hoar frost last weekend. I struggled to capture the beauty in a photograph, particularly under fairly leaden skies. I took this image at the weir at Bamford Mill.

Inland the wind picked up and it was as if the heaven leaden sky would compress everything in its way.

The reed bent so far as if it were trying to break free from the earth to flee.

The last rays of the sun would soon give way to a macabre darkness........

The leaden sky yesterday evening didn't seem very promising for photography but just as I was about to drive home, the sun broke through and created some great light and shadows across the fields around Wardlow, Derbyshire.

Looking inland. The weather here in the UK has been terrible with dark leadened skies and regular rain. The Joni Mitchell song "Both Sides Now" came to mind. It has the wonderful lyrics "But clouds got in my way"

stay safe everyone.

.................................

I enjoy autumn in a sensual way: the polychromy of the landscape, the generosity of nature, the last breath of life before the arrival of winter.

The chestnut trees have withstood the leaden summer sun, they have defended their fruits and now they let go of the chestnuts with their open spiked armor, they shed everything, they are beautiful tired heroes.

Going down the hill, today...Some of the trees have started to look quite autumnal in Girvan Valley. I suppose, under a leaden sky, I wouldn’t be looking very summery, either...

Here's another from a very unseasonably wintry day on the Malvern Hills a couple of weeks ago. This group of three small trees on Table Hill really stood out in a momentary shaft of sunlight against a grey and threatening sky.

Happy Sliders Sunday ;o)

This one seemed so cheerful as the rain pours down, and the sky is a leaden grey!

Textures: my own

My Sliders Sunday set is here: Here

Post-processing set: Here

Thanks to Rafaela’ for the title :-)

Processed with several Flypapers namely Leaden Hall, Leaky Garret and Chlorophyll from the first two packs, and #21 and 3 from the new edges pack, though these were just used for their textures rather than the edges.

This was actually taken in my basement, but you'd never know -the background is my very special light diffuser...a cobweb covered window :-)

Wishing you a wonderful week.

To the dull mind nature is leaden.

To the illumined mind the whole world burns and sparkles with light.”

Photo taken this afternoon November 22nd when I was enjoying a short bike ride.

My last post of 2016.

"TumbleWorld", aka Pano-Sabotage, finally walks willingly into Winter.

Two things arose for me when processing this image. The first was the realization that very dull snowy days can be incredibly bright, even though the sky is a heavy, leaden gray. I tried to maintain that in this shot.

The second was a memory from childhood. On days of very heavy snow I remember noticing how the ambient light had a green cast to it. I haven't seen that much of this weird phenomenon in my life but I remember being very struck by it when I have encountered it. Really heavy thunderstorms are also heralded by the same kind of colour in the sky. Not a meteorologist, I have no idea why this happens.

Happy New Year Everyone !!!

Could also be a female Satin Flycatcher, as I have a lot of trouble telling the difference.

The sky is still leaden with morning clouds as St. Maries River Railroad’s Plummer turn rumbles over Pedee Creek trestle at Pedee, Idaho, on September 27, 2021. Some early autumn color helps brighten a quintessential day in the Northwest, while enjoying a still-surviving fragment of Milwaukee Road’s Pacific Extension that was mostly forsaken 41 years ago.

The beach here never disappoints, there's always some sort of reflection, all that's needed are decent clouds! The dark line in the sand was a small depression running across the beach leading into the shot! This Leaden Pall, is a reference to the grey clouds overhead, and is another Half Man Half Biscuit track!

Last week I mentioned we were struggling to shake off winter in these parts, but I certainly didn't expect it to return with a vengence as it did last weekend.

This is the scene on Table Hill in the Malvern Hills last Sunday morning after heavy overnight snow. The snow covered tree was lit up by a brief burst of sunlight, contrasting sharply with the leaden sky beyond.

The days are heavy with mysterious mists covering the land, but don't despair! Spring will come again!☺

"Thick February mists cling heavily

To the dead earth and to each leafless tree,

And closer down upon the hilltops draw,

Dull forecasts there of bright, sure-coming spring;

Yet the heart gathers hope and strange delight

From this dear, unlovely,

unwished-for sight

of leaden-misted twilights lengthening." ~ Emma Lazarus

It sifts from leaden sieves

It sifts from leaden sieves,

It powders all the wood,

It fills with alabaster wool

The wrinkles of the road.

It makes an even face

Of mountain and of plain, —

Unbroken forehead from the east

Unto the east again.

It reaches to the fence,

It wraps it, rail by rail,

Till it is lost in fleeces;

It flings a crystal veil.....

Solo un rayo de Tanit es capaz de iluminar al Faro cegado por la tormenta ... Así la diosa emerge entre tintes plomizos para regalarnos susurros de luz y color al Ocaso…F.O.G.

English :

Only a beam of Tanit is able to illuminate the lighthouse blinded by the storm ... Thus the goddess emerges between leaden dyes to give us whispers of light and color at sunset ... F.O.G.

As I sit here peering out at the festive holiday monsoon with leaden grey skies, it brought to mind a damp walk up Deepdale earlier this year.

Here is a shot I took on the way up the valley. It was drizzling and moody and not bad conditions for this type of shot. The day improved substantially after this and I repeated the locations again on the way back down with a bit of blue sky above the looming mass of Greenhow End, seen here in the distance. A great valley for this type of shot!

An autumn leaf brought by the wind ...

on the small green leaves of a hedge ... *•.¸¸.🍂

Different leaves .... different lives .... their shape and color are so different ........ yet they are there, wet by the same rain of a November morning, under the same leaden sky ..... with a different destiny ....

Each one is proud of its different splendor .... but the autumn leaf, despite everything, has a dignity and a beauty without equal ....

By way of a change from the mountains, here is a shot from a visit to the Cotswolds. This is Broadway Tower under leaden skies. The tower is on one of the highest points in the Cotswold Hills and affords a fine view across the Vale of Evesham, Worcestershire.
