Luckily I went out early this morning and took this of an obliging Kookaburra. As I look out at the moment the air and sky are brown. Thankfully for me the fires are not too close at the moment. Stay safe NSW and Qld. A State of Emergency, Total fire bans, and no rain. Crazy times.
…are medium gulls with light gray backs, white underparts, black wingtips with white markings and narrow white eye-arcs…😎😎
The Laughing Gull is named for its nasal call, but its appearance is rather stately. The birds are year-round residents of the coastal regions of the southeastern USA — this individual was seen at Goose Island State Park, Texas.
Strong winds were blowing off of Chincoteague Bay against our hotel, creating upswells. These were seemingly welcomed with great gusto by these Laughing gulls, who took the opportunity to perform all sorts of aerial acrobatics, while squawking loudly. They were often floating within reaching distance of our hotel balcony, from which this picture was taken.

All around the campfire
stood seven dusty men
The cook was drinking applejack,
the cattle were all penned
Someone must have cracked a wise one
because the men began to grin
Their smiles shot out like sunbeams
and made the night give in
Because
Laugh kills lonesome every single time
That's why Charlie Russell painted it
And why it looks so fine
Laugh kills lonesome every single time
Roy and Dale and Pecos Bill,
they knew all about this
So did Walt and Hasui,
who gave it their own twist
Sometimes, when things can't get much worse
and life's become a fist
Someone will crack a wise one
and laughter works like this, huh-huh
Laugh kills lonesome every single time
That's why Charlie Russell painted it
And why it looks so fine
Laugh kills lonesome every single time
Laugh kills lonesome
Laugh kills lonesome
Laugh kills lonesome every single time

Thank you, Nes, for the music and the laughs.
Laughing Kookaburra (Dacelo Novaeguineae) near Castlemaine, Central Victoria, Australia. This large kingfisher was keeping watch along the floodplain of the Loddon River.
I don’t know what was going on in the mind of this Laughing Dove that we encountered on during our visit to Ethiopia but it just insisted on walking toward me and getting too close for a photo. Every time I walked backward to get some distance it would just head right for me again. It seemed totally fearless. Finally, I had to walk way back and then just take a bunch of rapid shots before it got too close. This wasn’t exactly what I was going for but hopefully you can get some idea of the beauty of this little dove.

We are having a Laughing Dove nesting outside of our bedroom wall. It is now a routine for us check on her two to three times a day. It leaves the nest around 11am and returns in the evening; never minds human presence. This is different bird though!

Wanna be in on the joke?
(I wish I got the eyes a bit sharper, but I couldn't resist that smile!)
Have a terrific Wednesday - I'll catch up with you later today!

I'm sure I amused the local birders by taking lots of pictures of laughing gulls around the Gulf Coast. These are extremely common over there -- so common that they are a "parking-lot bird."
This particular gull was flying alongside the ferry between Fort Morgan and Dauphin Island, AL.
