The Gulls arrive before the ice has melted, and they waste no time. When the ice gets this dark, it is on the verge of melting.

It was fresh and windy that day on the cliffs of Cabo de Sao Vicente. It was only possible to move slowly along the edge of the 60 meter high cliff to watch the seagulls at their activities. Sometimes the wind died down for a moment and so I was able to take this portrait.

Pourquoi, pourquoi ?"
I was stitting on a bench near the edge of the water when this one flew to a boulder close beside me. Here is a close up showing the red eye ring they sport during breeding season.

Gestern am Altwasser eine Lachmöwe bei Regen. Schön zu sehen vom Schlichtkleid ins Prachtkleid mausernd.
On a rainy sunday at a dead stream branch a common black headed gull moulting into summer plumage.
Actually a Common gull (Larus canus) in winter livery and a marked stiff neck :)
These Ring-billed Gulls are wasting no time. They always arrive in Hawrelak Park before the melt, but this year the melt is three weeks later than usual. Their mating is a noisy affair.

Pacific Gull, Larus pacificus

On a day when most birds had wisely stayed in bed, this big gull came slowly down the beachline and I was able to get it against just the dark water backdrop
Black-Headed Gulls (Larus ridibundus). 17.6.2009, Tornio.
Didn`t glue them to the tree neither no photoshopping - they really stood in the tree...also some common gull.
