The Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center held their annual Language Day 2016 at the Presidio of Monterey, California, May 13 to promote and encourage cultural understanding and customs from around the world.
Approximately 5,000 people attended the event, which features cultural displays and activities as well as ethnic foods served by local international vendors on the Presidio’s Soldier Field every year.

Susy is the only person in my life who I'm happy to just stand back and watch as she interacts with other people. She has the deepest personality, this irrepressible energy, an ability to make someone happy just by being herself and doing it well. No one is more obviously heartfelt or secretively strong, and I've never respected or admired anyone more. Whatever mystery brought us together, I owe it my peace of mind. Whatever pieces I seem shattered in, she's the surest glue to hold them together. I'm usually alone this time of evening, so it was wild night. For an introvert like me, it's hard to describe Christmas with the Cubans. Save for a family friend (the girl on the left) and me, it's spoken in a sea of Spanish, a cheerful cacophony of laughter and language, lighting up this sleepy suburb of Chicago. It's the kind of evening that leaves you dehydrated from speaking, shouting, and smiling. My lips are dry, and there's every kind of warmth about it. Susy moves through the space for hours, dark-eyed and light-hearted. A little bit of the passion wears off on me tonight.

The Love Language, from Chapel Hill, NC, performed at Clementine Cafe on Saturday, April 3, 2010 as part of MACRoCK 13 in Harrisonburg, VA.
"écoutez et répétez!" the must-have thing for english schools in the 70s. each pupil is listening to a [reel to reel] tape of a native foreign-language speaker, with spaces left for appropriate responses. the pupil can listen to their own responses and improve on them, or repeat sections. the teacher can listen in or talk to the class over their headphones. language labs were prone to malfunctions and i don't recall our sessions being much use.

'The Language Stone' by Gordon Young (White Marble) in Saltwell Park, Gateshead. The marble was originally from Italy, but it lay on a Plymouth seabed for a century and a half after the ship carrying it to London sank in a storm. The text uses various languages to express the feeling of love.
Kudos to one who can explain what is going on with this billboard.
There's a large Hmong population in Sheboygan, Wisconsin...this is a transliteration of sounds, because I don't think there was initially a written Hmong language.
PRESIDIO OF MONTEREY, Calif. - For the first time in more than a decade, the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center opened its doors to the local community for its annual Language Day celebration.
Held May 11, on the open grounds of historic Soldier Field and surrounding classrooms, Language Day was a colorful celebration of foreign languages and cultural education highlighting the 26 different languages taught to military personnel at the Presidio of Monterey.

The College of DuPage Language Department and French Club (La Connexion Française), in collaboration with community members from the Alliance Française of DuPage, recently presented "Célébration de la Francophonie" at the College’s Glen Ellyn campus. The multicultural event featured displays on the customs of Francophone countries and treats from French-speaking countries, including Belgium, Congo, Switzerland, France, Haiti and Cameroon. In addition, participants had their “passports” stamped in each location and enjoyed student presentations and international folk dance.
