As my Dad passed away in June we were not celebrating Durga Puja this year and I did not go out much during the festivities. However I did go to a few pandals near my house just to click a few shots to share with my Flickr friends.

Here Goddess Durga is seen flanked by her children Lakshmi(the Goddess of wealth) and Ganesha the elephant God to the left of the shot and Saraswati(the Goddess of learning) and Kartikeya the bachelor God to the right of the shot.:-)Durga is shown slaying the evil Demon Mahishashura.

I also take this opportunity to wish all my friends Shubho Bijoya.:-)

The Lakshmi Vilas Palace at Vadodara in Gujarat, India, was built by Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad III in 1890. He named it after his queen Chimnabai I whose maiden name was Laxmibai.

It is four times the size of Buckingham Palace, and cost £1,80,000 to build. It is the largest private dwelling built till date. It contains 150+ rooms, and once had over 300 servants to maintain it. The palace grounds is about 500 acres!

In the 1930s Maharaja Pratapsinh created a golf course for use by his European guests. The course has since been renovated and expanded and opened to the public.

It remains the residence of the royal family who continue to be held in high esteem by the residents of Baroda.

PS: there is an airport nearby and the plane was on its flight path to land there.

FULL MOON LAKSHMI

According to Hindu legend, Lakshmi was created at the same time as the moon during the great churning of the milky ocean. Lakshmi is considered a central goddess in Hinduism and is celebrated on Diwali - "The festival of lights".

Lakshmi is the goddess of beauty, fortune, luck and success.

In Bengal, Lakshmi is worshiped during a night in Autumn when the moon is full, the brightest night of the year. It is believed that she showers wealth on this night
