Blooming Hasu or lotus (Nelumbo nucifera) taken at a park in Ikeda. It is native to India, Indochina and East Asia and is now cultivated for flower, food and fibre all over the world.
Renge (蓮華) means lotus flower, which has been a preferred base, seat or pedestal for Hindu and Buddhist deities such as Lakshmi, Sarasvati, Buddha and Avalokitasbara. The word has a religious implication, and there are several mountains named Renge in Japan, all of which are characterised by a flat or gently sloping summit for accommodating a deity.
