The pied avocet (Recurvirostra avosetta) is a large black and white wader in the avocet and stilt family, Recurvirostridae. The drier parts of he Soysambu Conservancy are dotted with common tree euphorbias (Euphorbia ingens), also known as candelabra tree or candelabra euphorbia. It is a succulent that is native to the drier parts of southern and eastern Africa. It is popularly known as the candelabra tree or naboom. This tall succulent tree with green round-like branches is 6–8 meters tall. Its trunk is thick. Candelabrum stems have 5 ridges each and are 3.5–7.5 centimeters thick.
