London Bridge was built in 1831 and spanned the Thames River until it was determined to be inadequate for the traffic that used the bridge. It was purchased in 1962 by American entrepreneur, Robert McCulloch, dismantled in 1967 and rebuilt at Lake Havasu in 1971. The original stonework was used to clad a new concrete structure.

The London Bridge in Arizona.

London Bridge in Havasu just after sunrise (still sporting some Christmas decoration). I was traveling only with the Nikon D700 and a 50mm f1.8D (and couldn't find a better position), so this 'wide angle' view is stitched from 6 vertical frames.

I shot this while hiking the Pilot Lake Trail near Lake Havasu City, AZ

Leftovers and outtakes, but I am back and exhausted in Massachusetts -- and looking forward to a COVID test Monday.

I took this from the London Bridge, which is about a 30 minute walk from the hospital (I was in Havasu to help mom with a medical thing). At least I got some steps in.

The distant mountains are in California. We actually drive some distance through California to get to Havasu Arizona from our area in AZ on the Colorado River. Not that anyone needs to know all that (unless you care to stalk me), but that is my story.

Some of the few pics I took couldn't be easily dealt with on the chromebook's tiny screen (my eyes are shot, really) so I'll get a couple out, possibly, over the next few days. It's slim pickings.

I hope all are having a fine weekend.

I will try to catch up later; going to spend some time with hyperactive Charlie, since I've been away for a week.

I'd give a body part to be in Havasu right now and catch this kind of sunrise rather than watching the sun rise in my rear view mirror as I drive to work. My life has settle into a rut that is B.O.R.I.N.G.

I'm craving the open road, adventure, excitement and something to do rather than paperwork all day.

The Pilot Rock Lighthouse is on the shore of Lake Havasu in Lake Havasu City, AZ.

Visited Lake Havasu in Arizona for the first time and really enjoyed the laid back, fun vibe and beautiful scenery filled with palms, water and mountains.

I've lived in the Mojave Desert now for more than two years and have finally visited the famous London Bridge for a sunset. It was probably the warmest sunset that I've ever photographed. It was 112 degrees, and my camera shut down after overheating.

Lake Havasu, Arizona

This was Pilot Rock in the painted desert which is the highest point in the Petrfiried Forest National Park. I didn't realize it was the highest point until I was reading facts about the place just now. The elevation rises to 6,243ft with the peak prominence being 524ft (i read about this as well and sorta understand it).

At this point in the trip to the Petrified Forest, I was getting cold, Scotch was getting restless and I was running out of time before the park closed. The lighting was interesting but rough to shoot, given that the majority of my photos from here needed very high shutter speeds and a high aperture to counteract the 25-40mph winds. None of my photos from this trip were as detailed as I'd like (partly f-stop and partly being unable to neutralize the wind fully) but I'll gladly take a loss of detail over camera blur. It was pretty tough to see the foreground at all due to the dark shadows that crept over the land from the clouds. This was the last "stop" we made on the route. It was about 4:30 that I realized I had only covered about 5 of the 28 miles of road and was supposed to be out of the park by 5pm. Wish I had spent another full day here exploring and taking my time to shoot. It's an unbelievable place to photograph and experience.

It is a bit out of place, but that really is the London Bridge and it is located at Lake Havasu City, AZ. The bridge, which was originally constructed in 1831 was getting to the point where it was unable to handle traffic so London sold the bridge to an AZ developer who was trying to popularize the remote city of Lake Havasu. It was reconstructed there stone by stone on dry land and then the canal was constructed under it. Work was completed during 1971. Lake Havasu is a popular destination for college Spring Breakers.

I spent a couple of nights at a BLM (Bureau of Land Management) campsite just north of Lake Havasu, AZ.

Springtime in the U.P. has me missing Lake Havasu today. Cold and rainy in the Yoop! But still awesome! :)

This is my Koko Bean! This was taken at our friends' house in Lake Havasu. I think this is like 3 years ago. Again, one of my favorites. <3

We were back at the boat dock and Tim and Megan were talking with some other boaters. I noticed the sunset was pretty nice while I waited so I grabbed a few shots.

Everybody else went to tanning salons before going to Havasu, but me, hence my cracker glow.

A week from tomorrow I'll be back in my beloved Havasu..cannot wait. Forecast 110 degrees :-)

Replica of Vermilion Lighthouse during Sunset, Lake Havasu City, Arizona, USA.

Lake Havasu replica is approximately one half the size of the original at Vermilion, Ohio. Located on the Colorado River in the Mojave Desert, Lake Havasu City is home to more lighthouses than any other city in the United States. There are 28 fully-functional scale replicas of famous lighthouses, built and maintained by the Lake Havasu Lighthouse Club.

The earliest time I've ever gotten up for birding, 2am, was to see this rare bird 4 hrs away at Lake Havasu. Our group of 8 rented a boat and saw this bird in the nick of time. This kittiwake circled our boat several times giving us obliging views and nice photo opportunities.

365/2022 - Into the Light - Day 16 Jan 16 - Love going to Lake Havasu and seeing the London Bridge, the closest I will ever get to going to see something in London! I googled the history of it got here, very interesting.

Of course, if I'd really painted this, I'd have frozen all of my fingers and probably wound up in the ER without finishing. Better to have the boats in there than no fingers, I think.

It might not show with all the post-processing on the other shots but it just kept right on getting darker and colder and snowier as the day went on.

Christmas 2014: "Desert Weirdness"

December 31: the real loneliest road in America; winter weirdness at London Bridge on New Year's Eve.

We went looking for desert weirdness and we found it: What better exemplifies the concept than bringing a stone bridge 5,400 miles from England and reassembling it over a manmade lake in the desert?

I have read that London Bridge is Arizona's second-largest tourist attraction after the Grand Canyon. Whether this is measured in number of visitors or overall length was not clear :)

Not the traditional Halloween Raven, but I thought this Great-tailed Grackle would be a pretty good substitute to wish you all a safe and "Happy Halloween"

Thank you for your visit and comments.
