È ora di stendere le mie bianche vele alla leggera brezza di sud-est che mi annuncia essere giunta l'ora di partire ancora una volta verso quella linea dell'orizzonte che la mia barca non raggiungerà mai. Ma dietro quell'orizzonte ci sono altre terre, altri amici che vorrei conoscere meglio prima di doverli lasciare. Destino del marinaio, sempre insoddisfatto perché pensa che, sull'altra riva, sempre più lontano, debba trovarsi quello che cerca.

View from the medieval fortifications at Castiglione del Lago over the Lake Trasimeno.
The fortress, Rocca del Leone (the Lion fortress) was first built in the first centuries of the 13th century, on orders from Frederick II, the Holy Roman Emperor. It was probably done by Elia da Cortona (also known as Elia da Assisi (he was born in Assisi and died at Cortona). Already in 1325 the fortification was renovated by Lorenzo Maitani (otherwise most known for his work on the cathedral in Orvieto).

Passed by Castiglione del Lago on the Lake Trasimeno on my way to Rome and spent a night there. An absolutely beautiful place!

To the right is the castle Palazzo della Corgna, dating back to the mid of the 16th century when it was built for the condottiere Ascanio della Corgna.
