Die Beliebtheit begründet sich unter anderem darin, dass sie im Gartenbau und der Landwirtschaft nützlich sind, da sie allein in ihrer Larvenzeit je nach Art bis zu 3000 Pflanzenläuse oder Spinnmilben fressen.
