This male was flashing his red cap and showing of his wing bars. Maybe he was trying to impress a female.

A 1978 Retro Edition of the 1943 original Board Game, "Chutes & Ladders" by Milton Bradley. The origin of this game traces back to ancient India with a game called "Snakes and Ladders."
Geared to pre-school and kindergarteners, the game helped children to count, recognize numbers, and to recognize that landing on good deeds gets you up the ladders and bad deeds send them down the chutes. Of course all of this is determined by the spinner!

A series of wooden ladders inside the Hubbard Mine. I spent almost an hour setting up the colored lights.
The Hubbard mine was started in 1874 and was jointly operated with the Redman and Ready Relief mines. Together they were one of the largest mining operations in the Julian district. The Hubbard mine profited $200,000 during its years of operation.
The workings include a crosscutting adit which is 300 feet long, plus a 275 ft. shaft connecting to the surface. Due to this shaft the mine was always well vented. There is one drift that connects to the Ready Relief Mine. The vein is approximately 1 ft. wide, is about 200 feet below the surface
There are impressive rolls of gangue quartz found here and other mines around Banner, including one ore called blue ribbon quartz. The rocks are highly siliceous mica schist.
This mine is home to a colony of rare Townsend’s big-eared bats. This species is very sensitive to human disturbance and therefore the mine should not be entered during the breeding season from May to September. -- Hidden San Diego

The old ladder and bucket this falls was named after are about 100 yards behind me. It was the best falls of the day. It's a 36 footer in the southern Ozark National Forest near Hector, AR.

Jacob's ladder (Polemonium) was given its common name because the arrangement of its leaves is somewhat ladder-like. However, it's Jacob's ladders' flowers that are the real attraction. Polemonium caeruleum and its cultivars send up clusters of flowers atop long stems in late spring to early summer. The bright blue varieties are among the most popular, blooming in clear tones of blue and bluish-purple, offset by yellow centres.
Jacob's ladder is a hardy perennial plant. It is upright and clump-forming, but it will spread by seed. Most Jacob's ladder plants have bell-shaped flowers in shades of purple and lavender, but there are also white, pink, and yellow varieties available. The compound leaves are composed of rows of narrow, pinnate leaflets. The branches grow from a basal rosette and arch and sway as they grow tall.
