Has been in news lately where Chinese (PLA) army encroached on the Indo-Tibet border and 20 Indian soldiers were martyred. Troops face-off still continues.
The evening view from Shanti Stupa in Leh, India. I like the inter-play of the light and the shadows.
TSO KAR is a salt lake in the southern part of Ladakh (Himalayas), 160km south of Leh, at an altitude of 4,530m.
The mountains surrounding the lake reach 6,000m.
Until a few years ago the lake was an important source of salt, which the Changpa nomads used to export to Tibet.
The climate here is harsh. In winter, temperatures below -40 °C are not uncommon. In summer the temperature rises above 30 °C, with extreme fluctuations during the day. Precipitation in the form of either rain or snow is extremely rare.
An unforgettable journey.
It may sound quite repetitive if you are going through my posts, but Ladakh has to offer you different view every time you move your camera a bit and all of them are breathtaking.
I had taken this shot somewhere in Ladakh while travelling from Manali to Leh by road.
The approx.490 kms long Manali-Leh highway connects Manali in the state of Himachal Pradesh to Leh in the state of Jammu & Kashmir in India. This highway is open for only about 4-5 months of the year from May-June till around mid-October.The average elevation of the highway is over 13000 feet and the highest elevation is at Tanglang la Pass (17480 feet). The highway passes through some spectacular mountain scenery and one can see some amazing rock and sand formations along the way.

People from Ladakh are quite different from the rest of India, their physique, food, clothing, culture, and ethnicity are mostly similar to the people of Tibet and Central Asia.
One of the most outstanding features in the society of Ladakh is that women enjoy liberty and equality and have a very high status in society.
Leh is the capital of the Leh District of Ladakh, India. The city lies on the true right bank of the Indus River in a narrow valley north of the river at an elevation of some 3,530 m (11,581 ft.). The Leh Palace towers over the city at left. It was built by Sengge Namgyal who ruled the Kingdom of Ladakh from 1616 to 1642. The royal family occupied the upper floors with stables and storerooms on the lower floors. On the ridge to the right, the lower complex is the Namgyal Tsemo Gompa (Namgyal Tsemo Monastery). On the summit, the Tsemo Castle (aka Victory Fort, elev. c. 3,680 m, 12,073 ft.) is seen. Both were built by King Tashi Namgyal (ruled 1555-1575).
