The theme for “Smile on Saturday” for the 16th of April is “funny packaging”. This was quite a challenge for me, as I seldom see amusing packaging, as I don’t look for it. When I shop for groceries, a lot of what I buy is fresh produce and I don’t tend to eat the junk food that may have funny packaging. Then I remembered that several years ago when I was out with a fellow photographer friend on a shopping day, we had luncheon in a little café and we both noticed a few bottles displayed on top of a cabinet illuminated by the bright sunlight outside. We asked the café oner if we could photograph them. Both drinks are made by a New Zealand company called Karma Drinks: a sustainable and ethically conscious fair trade company. The bottles are decorated with rather strikingly designed labels, which I also think are rather funny, the Lemmy lemonade especially. The Gingerella ginger ale name and label design are based on the 1968 French science fiction film “Barbarella” starring Jane Fonda, directed by Roger Vadim. I hope you like my choice for this week’s theme and that it brings a smile to your face.
Whole Lotta Love -+- King Curtis and the Kingpins
Stylized trumpet on the Atco Records 45-rpm single label design. Even though the trumpet on singles (both 45- and 78-rpm) dates back to the 1955 founding of the label, this basic yellow-and-white 45 label design was used from 1957 to 1979; variants of the design for promotional and disc jockey copies were used until 1984.
With pop and, later, rock acts comprising the bulk of Atco's roster during the trumpet label's era, not all releases employed the instrument in either feature or backing duty. The instrument appears in this particular single, a rousing instrumental Led Zeppelin cover identified in the photo only by its A-side matrix (or master) number, when the backing orchestra shifts into high gear.

I have another story to tell about this image.
I tried to upload this image for Getty Images library.
The first thing is that the editor asked me to remove the logo on the backpack. Logo is not allowed in stock images.
The person's face was not seen and I thought I don't need a model release.
But then the editor said the tattoo is recognizable and therefore a model release is still required. I do not have one and of course the image cannot be accepted by the library.
Some of my friends also sell their pictures to library or other people. And they avoid the issues of model release, property release or other kinds of permissions required for artwork, labels, design etc appeared in the pictures by totally avoiding any kinds of urban scenes. They shoot only landscape in wild nature and animals or birds (no model release is needed). :o)
There is one time I shot a fall landscape and there is a house (tiny in size) shown in the scene. Getty also asked for a property release!

Prior to the construction of Waddesdon Manor, no house existed on the site. Ferdinand de Rothschild wanted a house in the style of the great Renaissance châteaux of the Loire Valley.[25] Ferdinand chose as his architect Gabriel-Hippolyte Destailleur.[26] Destailleur was already experienced in working in this style, having overseen the restoration of many châteaux in that region, in particular that of the Château de Mouchy.
Through Destailleur's vision, Waddesdon embodied an eclectic style based on the châteaux so admired by his patron, Baron Ferdinand. The towers at Waddesdon were based on those of the Château de Maintenon, and the twin staircase towers, on the north facade, were inspired by the staircase tower at the Château de Chambord.[27] However, following the theme of unparalleled luxury at Waddesdon, the windows of the towers at Waddesdon were glazed, unlike those of the staircase at Chambord. They are also far more ornate.
The structural design of Waddesdon was not all retrospective. Hidden from view were the most modern innovations of the late 19th century including a steel frame, which took the strain of walls on the upper floors, which consequently permitted the layout of these floors to differ completely from the lower floors.[28] The house also had hot and cold running water in its bathrooms, central heating, and an electric bell system to summon the numerous servants. The building contractor was Edward Conder & Son.[29]
After the Manor was completed in 1883, Ferdinand quickly decided it was too small. The Bachelors' Wing to the east was extended after 1885 and the Morning Room, built in late-Gothic style, was added to the west after 1888.[30] The stables to the west of the Manor were built in 1884. Ferdinand and his stud groom devised the plan, working with Conder. Destailleur designed the façades in a French 17th-century style.[31]

Wine Cellars
The Wine Cellars in the Manor were created during the Centenary Restoration and opened in 1994. They are modeled on the private cellars at Château Lafite Rothschild. More than 15,000 bottles are stored in the Cellars, some 150 years old, the majority from the Château Lafite Rothschild and Château Mouton Rothschild estates. It is the largest private collection of Rothschild wines in the world. There are also wine labels designed by artists such as Salvador Dali and Andy Warhol.[32]

A remarkable document this - a spirally bound 140 pages of nuts, bolts, fixings, fasteners and special forgings that were in production at the Atlas Works of Guest, Keen & Nettlefolds (Midlands) Ltd. at Darlaston in Staffordshire. The well produced catalogue has been thoughtfully published using index tabs and colours to cover the seven sections, covering black bolts and screws, high tensile, 'Bright" bolts and screws, brass as well as Specilaities and appendices.
GKN was a sprawling conglomerate based on the 1902 merger of Nettlefolds of Birmingham with Guest, Keen & Co who were themselves the product of Guest's (associated with the Welsh Dowlais Iron Co) and Keen's Patent Nut & Bolt Co. again of Birmingham. Over the decades they acquired many other similar concerns becoming a 'verically integrated' concern in that they produced iron and steel as well as formed metal into a wide variety of products. They had a loose 'structure' at the time of this catalogue although there was to be a brief interlude when the 'producing companies' were nationalised in 1951 before being reacquired between 1954 and 1955. The concern later morphed into GKN.
Opposite a selection of machined bolts and nuts are examples of the box end labels used for the various products. These colour coded and grouped labels used to fascinate me in ironmongers shops as a child!
