Event organised by a team from RoadSafe Northland, Whangarei District Council, Police, Northland Regional Council, Northland District Health Board, Manaia PHO, members of the public and Safekids New Zealand.

‘The Green Man’ leads the Long Short Walk! Walk safe with the “Traffic Light Green Man” - promote pedestrian safety and sustainable transport.

Road Safety Projects Facilitator Morag van der Veer said the green men, with Safekids Long Short Walk signboards, a loud hailer and drums, were a big hit at Kensington Park where weekend rugby, football and netball games were being held.

“We had about 22-30 walkers and an audience of hundreds. At times spectators joined in and walked alongside us,” Morag said.
