CX219 smokes her way on to runway 05R at Manchester International, after an early morning arrival from Hong Kong International Airport, touching down at 06:39. The A350 is hands down the best looking modern airliner in my humble opinion.

In 2009, an Environmental Assessment (EA) began to create a proposal of electrically-powered light rail transit through Kitchener and Waterloo, and adapted bus rapid transit from Kitchener to Cambridge. On June 24, 2009, Regional Council voted to approve the project, subject to funding from higher levels of government, which was in turn approved by council on June 15, 2011.

 

Construction began in August 2014 and service was expected to begin in late 2017; however, because of delays in the manufacture and delivery of rolling stock, the introduction of the light rail service was significantly delayed. The total cost of the system was estimated at $818 million, but in December 2017, the overruns were estimated to total approximately $50 million. The Province was expected to provide $25 million of that amount.

 

According to the Region of Waterloo, the Ion network is named after the atom, which it describes as being “always in motion”.

 

On July 10, 2013, it was reported that a deal was finalized with Metrolinx to join its contract with Bombardier Transportation for the purchase of 14 Flexity Freedom LRVs to form the system's initial fleet, with an option to purchase up to 14 more as the need arises. The 14 vehicles are estimated to cost $92.4 million, an average of $6.6 million per vehicle.

 

Each 30-metre-long, 30-tonne vehicle has 56 seats and a standing capacity of 144 passengers. The body is constructed of five sections, in an accordion-like configuration to allow for sharp turns. It can be driven from either end. The top speed is 88 km/h but the average travel speed is unlikely to exceed 50 km/h.

 

The vehicles are numbered with a three-digit unit number in the 5xx series beginning with 501. This fleet number is displayed prominently on the end modules of each vehicle followed by a single letter to denote which end module the fleet number is on (e.g. 503A, 507B).

Yes, it is my own variant of Andreas' LRV.

 

Instead of a closed cockpit vehicle that I couldn't replicate, I made an open cockpit troop transport.

 

This design is 100% that of Nick Jensen (www.flickr.com/photos/nickjensen/). I only modded it to suit my needs.

 

Thanks Nick for the Warthog instructions. I noticed some people thought my ATV was a Mongoose, now you can think that my LRV is a Warthog! : D

Pittsburgh Regional Transit (PRT) CAF LRV no. 4312 is seen stopped at Warrington Ave / Allen St while operating a Silver Line service to Library Station. The adjacent building features a mural showing a PCC car that formerly operated in the city.

TRAX (Transit Express) bedient in en rond Salt Lake City (Utah, USA) de Light Rail en Streetcar-lijnen met 146 gelede trams (LRV's) waarvan 77 stuks van het nieuwste model S70 geleverd door Siemens vanaf 2011. Twee van deze LRV's naderen hier de halte Arena met op de achtergrond het voormalige Union Pacific Depot (info en interieur hiervan is te vinden in aangehechte foto).

 

TRAX (Transit Express) serves the Light Rail and Streetcar-lines in Salt Lake City and its suburbs (Utah, USA) with 146 LRV's (Light Rail Vehicles) of which 77 are of the newest class S70 delivered by Siemens as from 2011. Two of these LRV's are approaching the station Arena in front of the former Union Pacific Depot (of which information and interior can be found in the attached picture).

Op een zonovergoten julidag vorig jaar werd een dagje afgezakt naar de Belgische kust. Hier wilde ik een laatste keer de welbekende BN LRV’s vastleggen, waarvan nog enkele exemplaren hun finale weken van commerciële ritten langsheen de kustlijn volbrachten. De dag werd begonnen met een wandeling door de duinen vanaf Raversijde Provinciedomein, waarna het wachten kon beginnen. Gelukkig reden er op de korte sectie tussen Oostende Station en Westende Bad twee oudgedienden, waardoor het niet lang duurde voordat de eerste succesvolle plaatjes gemaakt konden worden.

 

Kort nadat er op de duin geklauterd werd, passeert stel 6002 naar het station van Oostende de lens. Hierna werden de schoenen geleegd en teruggegaan naar de halte. Na twee trams die volledig volzet voorbijraasden kon de derde met enige moeite betreden worden. In tegenstelling tot het binnenland zou de zon die dag volop schijnen aan de kust, waardoor nog verschillende locaties tussen Oostende en Knokke succesvol afgestreept konden worden.

What’s SSE you ask? Even if you didn’t:

 

“1.9. SPACE SUPPORT EQUIPMENT (SSE)

The Space Support Equipment (SSE) consists of two basic subsystems of hardware, the structural support subsystem and the deployment hardware subsystem. The function of the structural support subsystem is to structurally support the LRV in the LM during launch boost, earth-lunar transit and landing. The function of the deployment hardware subsystems is to deploy the LRV from the LM to the lunar surface after landing.”

And, based on the above, one can deduce that - despite being MSFC issued - the photograph was taken at the Boeing Company’s Kent, WA facility, prior to shipment to KSC. That’s the only place the SSE associated with “FLT no. 3”, aka LRV-3/Apollo 17, would be “externally/pre-installation” available

 

Also, check out the deformed front left wheel…damn…along with the cool shadow cast by the left rear wheel on the wall/partition. A great visual demonstrating its ingenious “transparent” mesh design. Finally, the sequence of previous? LRV deployment photos posted, visible on the far left. Now, if I could only identify the Great American in the image.

Guess it's been a while since my last MOC...

 

I gotta be honest, this did not turn out how I wanted. Sourcing the vintage grey tires in decent condition is extremely difficult, and on top of that I couldn't add fenders because the part I had in mind for them wouldn't work.

 

Given enough time, money, and motivation I probably could fix these issues but I've been focusing on other hobbies for a while, so I decided it's best to just post it as is and give this explanation. I'm probably not going to have much new to post here for a while but I do still have some MOC ideas that you might see in the future, I just can't guarantee that will be any time soon.

Pittsburgh Regional Transit (PRT) CAF LRV no. 4311 is the lead unit on an outbound Blue Line train seen approaching First Avenue Station, its last stop before crossing the Monongahela River.

A Denver RTD LRV travels the H Line on Stout & 16th Street in Denver.

A surprise today was to see Stantons of Stoke using one of their Wright Gemini bodied Volvo B9TLs on service 90 between Tunstall and Ball Green during the school holidays.LRV 731 is seen here at Bradeley.It was formerly Lothian SN09 CUG (No 310).

The two different manufacturer's representatives side by side at target Field

NJ Transit River LINE DMU no. 3518A (Stadler GTW 2/6, 1995-2017) is seen departing the Trenton Transit Center, starting its journey south to Camden.

SOCIMI's S350 LRV was the first 100% low floor tram produced in Italy in 1989.

It was tested for a short period by ATM of Milan on line 11 and then sold to ALSTOM.

The bogie design was later used for Bombardier's Eurotram (the project being originally a joint venture with Socimi that was no more involved after failing for bankruptcy).

The interesting protype rests on two indipendent wheels rotating bogies and is seen awaitng scrapping on the tracks outside ALSTOM Savigliano plant.
