Lord of the Rings online made an industry-changing move this year. Rather than compete with the king of MMOs and race to the bottom of monthly fee pricing, LOTRO is free for everyone to play. Instead they charge real $USD to buy in-game items and abilities.
For the new Mines of Moria expansion to Lord of the Rings, I ordered the Collector's Edition, which includes a map of Middle Earth, a poster featuring Durin's Bane, an exclusive soundtrack (which is amazing!), conceptual artwork, a gold-plated replica of the One Ring with chain and pouch, a cloth map of the Mines of Moria, several buddy passes, and 3 exclusive in-game items.
I've edited together some short clips to demonstrate the related activities for crafting in Lord of the Rings Online:
Killing wargs for leather, treating the leather, then sewing it into clothing. Prospecting metal from nodes, then hammering it out into ingots on an anvil so another player can create items.
Group pic of some folks in my kinship The Kindred in the MMO Lord of the Rings Online.
We are getting ready to tackle a bad guy in Fornost. (yes, we survived!)
