This is the final logo in a series of logos I've done for a non-profit in New Orleans. It's been the most challenging—maybe because I'm tired, maybe because I can't find a good visual without being cliche.

upper left: the shape may invoke a brick, which is OK since they are literally rebuilding Katrina houses/lives. It started as an attempt at binoculars or a view finder.

upper center: This was a loose interpretation of a kaleidoscope. It also represents all the volunteers coming together around a single project.

upper right: Cliche hand. Don't like this one very much. It was suppose to be "friendly," but I think it's just boring.

lower left: Trying to represent people with the individual ovals coming together around a single project.

lower right: desperate... Looks like the yellow pages icon, doesn't it?

What's working? What's not? The applications are everything from print materials to lots of t-shirts for the teams of volunteers who come (mostly short-term mission groups from US churches)

Emily fashion doll by Arcady / Barbie clone doll

Emily was Jada’s friend made by Arcady sold in similar boxes as Jada with only the name changed to Emily.

“Arcady” the company that made Emily sold this doll in many knockoff Barbie doll boxes that used Barbie’s logo designs and cartoon illustrations as their own. Emily had a friend doll named Jada that was another Barbie clone knockoff that that was an African American version of Barbie. Emily was mostly sold in boxes with extra outfits with accessories. She was also sold with a friend doll which was basically an extra Emily doll in the box instead of Jada.

Arcady is a toy company in China that makes knockoff fashion dolls and toys for Dollar stores that sell knockoff products. This company is known for making Barbie clones that used left over stock of old Barbie head molds from the early 2000s. Mattel updated Barbie’s looks over the years the head molds that many of these toy companies use are outdated versions of Barbie’s head mold that Mattel no longer uses.

Mattel, has made a rule to many of these toy companies these days, that they can no longer use these old versions of Barbie’s head mold due to copyright infringement. Instead Mattel told these companies to make their own fashion doll head molds to stop copying Barbie.

these were the early logo ideas -- these were some fun ideas, though we ended up going a completely different route which eventually led us to this final logo

logo design (variant 1)

Sideway logos, look how the normal logo would be 90 degrees tilted from these.

6 colors are now known, white, yellow, red, blue, trans-clear and my latest addition BLACK:)

They all have Pat,Pend. Why or where these were made is still up for discussion, most believe they are Samsonite, but I'm not convinced yet.

I think these originate in the UK.

I have them, if you have another color, let me know.

See also the rest of my 2x4 brick collection (still growing)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2014 looks like we need to do more research on which comes from where.

Both ABS and CA can come from the UK or Samsonite.

USA = ABS and transparent CA

UK = CA pip bottom inside edge, and ABS pip short side

2024

Fun to look back at things we didn’t know back then, but have since figured out.

My assumption was right, my bricks did come from the UK, but the others were also right, bricks also came from Samsonite.

Just more to collect 😁

I've been in need of a good logo for some time now and my good bud, Bryan Brinkman, hooked it up. He's been getting a lot more into graphic design work and is definitely progressing with it very quickly. Check out his blog as well.

This may not even be the final version but I do dig this one a lot :D

logos crated in illustrator from originals

The ones on the left hand side are the real logos and the ones on the right hand side are the recreated logos. The 2 at the bottom are my personal logos using my initials. These were all done using Illustrator.

Logo design for VacaConnect, an online community that helps people find individually owned vacation properties worldwide. The client specifically did not want a tropically-themed logo, as is often found in the vacation space.

The logo features a suitcase as a symbol of travel and vacations - it's the one item you always have with you when you go somewhere, regardless of location.

The trendy bright green appeals to the audience looking to get away, hinting at renewal without directly correlating with the sea or a tropical area. The grey, a little more conservative, engenders feelings of trust in the company from the audience, complementing the green.
