Circa un mese dopo lo scatto “Light in the Dark”, stalattite e stalagmite si toccano: due formazioni di ghiaccio cresciute lentamente, goccia dopo goccia, ora unite in una fragile cascata ghiacciata, un velo di ghiaccio che sfiora appena la base.
La struttura a ventaglio, sottile e “piatta”, si è probabilmente formata grazie a una combinazione di correnti d’aria, afflusso irregolare d’acqua, congelamento rapido e pochi punti di contatto. Il risultato ricorda più un pennello ghiacciato che una colonna. Una splendida dimostrazione di quanto la crescita del ghiaccio nelle caverne glaciali possa essere dinamica e imprevedibile.

Etwa einen Monat nach der Aufnahme «Light in the Dark» berühren sich Stalaktit und Stalagmit: Zwei Eisformationen, die sich Tropfen für Tropfen langsam aufeinander zu bewegt haben, nun vereint in einem fragilen Eisvorhang. Ein Schleier aus Eis, der gerade so den Boden streift.
Die fächerartige, „flache“ Struktur ist vermutlich durch eine Kombination aus Luftströmung, unregelmässiger Wasserzufuhr, schnellem Gefrieren und begrenzten Kontaktpunkten entstanden. Dadurch wirkt die Formation eher wie ein gefrorener Pinsel als wie eine Säule. Eine wunderbare Veranschaulichung der Dynamik und Unvorhersehbarkeit von Eiskristallbildung in Gletscherhöhlen.

Roughly a month after the photo “Light in the Dark” was taken, the stalactite and stalagmite meet, two ice formations that had slowly grown toward each other, drop by drop, now joined in a fragile ice waterfall, a frozen veil that just barely touches the ground.
The fan shaped, “flat” ice structure likely formed through a combination of airflow, irregular water supply, rapid freezing, and minimal contact points. As a result, it resembles a frozen brush more than a column. A beautiful illustration of how dynamic and unpredictable ice growth in glacier caves can be.

Juguetona desde niña, me encanta buscar nuevos caminos, hacerlo de otra forma, no más facil ni con trampas, pero dejándome guiar por mi intuición, lo que ese momento me inspire, y este es el resultado. Un zooming muy especial, que no solo nos guía hacia el atardecer sino que también te tire al suelo.
