A surreal flock of seagulls in a feeding frenzy as the local visitors throw them crumbs at the pond.
You can't beat a beautiful salt water pool in the middle of summer. We were lucky enough to be staying with relatives who have a lovely pool and a great selection of inflatable pool toys. The pink flamingo and the yellow lilo made for gorgeous reflections on the water surface.
driving home....have to stop...wonderful light...golden tones...liquid gold...nothing else..

The Cube Berlin: A window washer's dream. Or nightmare? And a friendly reminder to myself that now that the scaffolding in front of our part of the house is finally, finally gone, I should clean the windows, because they look terrible after the renovation. But it's winter, right? Much too cold to clean the windows, because I don't want to heat the street, right? And please don't say "That's procrastination!". It's just common sense. Yes. It is. Definitely :)

Der Cube Berlin mit seiner rundherum verglasten, pyramidenförmig nach innen gefalteten Fassade ist sicherlich eines jeden Fensterputzers Traum. Oder eher Albtraum? Die auf Hochglanz polierte Glaskonstruktion erinnert mich auf jeden Fall auch daran, dass ich nun, da das Baugerüst endlich von unserem Teil des Hauses verschwunden ist, eigentlich Fenster putzen sollte, denn sie sehen trotz Schutzfolie (die allerdings ein wenig zu früh wieder entfernt wurde) einfach schrecklich aus. Also Albtraum. Aber wir haben ja noch Winter und draußen ist es kalt. Und ich möchte bestimmt nicht nach draußen heizen. Schließlich sollen wir Energie sparen. Sagt hier jetzt jemand etwa "Verzögerungstaktik, Ausrede!"? Aber nein, das ist bloß gesunder Menschenverstand, nicht wahr? Eben :)

A shot taken this evening at Newport Pier.
I was very undecided this weekend about where I wanted to shoot. After seeing all the fantastic fall photos on Flickr I have been wanting to shoot some fall colors myself, but fall colors are not easily found in Southern California. After some research last year I found an aspen grove in my local mountains. I went there in September to view this set of two groves. Well, there was not any color to be seen and I ended up shooting over at Coon's Creek. On my way out I was told by the Host at the Heart Bar campground that the best time to shoot the grove was the middle of October and that a 2 week window shows the best reds oranges and golds.
There was still stormy weather around the southland so I decided to wait until next weekend to give it a go. Instead I made the trek out to Newport Beach to see if I could get a colorful sunset reflecting in the wet sand which didn't work out very well the last time I was there, but I did manage to walk away with a good shot anyway.
