The Lord Line building opened in 1949 and was at the heart of Hullâs fishing industry. Sadly up to the 1980âs, 6000 fishermen lost their lives at the hands of the sea. The Lord Line building began winding down in 1975 when the dock closed and became completely derelict in 1990. Several fires have damaged parts of the building since 2010.

The âline_upâ is a paperwork series I developed since 2010. The âlinersâ are made out of paper (Din A3/A4),
oil paint and graphite. The theme is the hermetical laws of polarity and movement. There is no ending and no beginning in any direction, just an endless movement. You have the possibility to arrange the papers like you want and that makes it an endless playground for my photo-work and the eyes of the viewers.

A clothes line was a news forecast,
to neighbours passing by.
There were no secrets you could keep,
when clothes were hung to dry.
It also was a friendly link,
for neighbours always knew,
If company had stopped on by,
to spend a night or two.
For then you'd see the fancy sheets
and towels upon the line;
You'd see the company tablecloths,
with intricate design.
The line announced a baby's birth,
to folks who lived inside,
As brand new infant clothes,
were hung so carefully with pride.
The ages of the children,
could so readily be known
By watching how the sizes changed,
you'd know how much they'd grown.
It also told when illness struck,
as extra sheets were hung;
Then night-clothes, and a bathrobe too,
haphazardly were strung.
It said "Gone on vacation now",
when lines hung limp and bare.
It told "We're back!" when full lines sagged,
with not an inch to spare.
New folks in town were scorned upon,
if washing was dingy grey,
As neighbours raised their brows,
and looked disgustedly away.
But clotheslines now are of the past,
for dryers make work less,
Now what goes on inside a home,
is anybodies guess.
I really miss that way of life;
it was a friendly sign,
When neighbours knew each other best,
by what was on the line.

Wie ich schon vor Wochen erwÀhnt habe, waren drei meiner Katzen an einem Schnupfen erkrankt.
Lizzi und Lotte haben sich schnell davon erholt, nur die kleine Line hat es schwerer erwischt. Sie hat eine schwere Augenerkrankung davon getragen und bekommt immer noch Tabletten. Zum GlĂŒck ist das schlimmste nicht eingetroffen, wie der Tierarzt befĂŒrchtet hat. Sie ist nicht erblindet, aber die Augen werden wohl so trĂŒb bleiben.
Das schöne ist, sie hat ihre alte Lebenslust wieder gewonnen.

I have been after a shot like this for a long time â a shorebird caught in the middle of a foam line created by the gentle waves as they reach the shoreline. This little sanderling was scurrying back and forth between the waves searching for tiny morsels to snack on. It makes for lots of âthrow awaysâ on the card to get the bird and the foam just right. I just love how the light highlights the bubbles in the foam, the bird and the incoming wave.
