I was photographing a thunderstorm to the northwest, when new storms arrived in the south to southeast. An angry sky came in with some vivid lightning bolts.

I like shooting storms at dusk......

A great lightning storm passed over the town last night

Lightning captured with a Canon Powershot SD1100 running the CHDK and a motion detect script.

I am not sure why there's a faint double-image of the lightning bolt - the obvious answer is reflection on the double pane window, except I've taken lots of lightning photos through these windows and not usually gotten that effect.

When I went to bed, there was a prediction of lightning bearing down on us, so I set up this one camera running the motion detect script behind the curtain. I thought about setting up the rest of my cameras but I was really tired and needed to get up early and had only seen some faint sheet lightning so far. Also, when I leave cameras in the windows facing east, I have to either get up at 5am or let them sit in the direct morning sunlight for hours, which I don't think is so great for them, so I often only want to risk it for the old camera I don't care about as much. So, I only set up one camera and went to bed. Then when I woke up in the morning and saw these beautiful clear lightning strikes, I really kicked myself for not staying up a little later to watch the storm and for not setting up the other cameras. I clearly missed a good opportunity. But at least I got a couple photos on this camera.

Thunderstorm and heavy downpour in the island of Singapore

Lightning Strike

The weather in July is often marked by heavy and small thunderstorms. On the first day of August 2017 a strong storm was forcasted over the Hof region. The Wartturm in the east of Hof was a good viewpoint to watch the lightning strikes. At the local festival the storm caused probably a short interruption. Shortly after I took this picture I buckled into my car - the thunderstorm was directly above me.

his photo captures the awesome power of nature, with a lightning bolt striking a tree in the middle of a field. The bolt of lightning is bright and bold, illuminating the tree and the surrounding landscape with a bright flash.

An unbelievable lightning storm last night passed us by to the North. This is an 8-second exposure. To watch it in real time was just amazing. Constant flickering with bolts coming out of the clouds with a speed that seemed like a time-lapse.

Here is the video I took with my phone.

The last day of the meteorological summer was also the best for lightning photography.

I chased a storm over the central and eastern part of The Netherlands and managed to take great lightning photographs in the valley of the river IJssel.

More photographs of this chase will follow.....

After busting hard on three tornado storms my friend and I found a rain free area to view a nearby lightning storm.

This morning was a wonderful light show. And through it all I never got wet! This one is a compilation of several lightning strikes taken at the beach in Deerfield.

his beautiful photo captures a bolt of lightning in the distance, with the horizon illuminated by a beautiful orange glow. The lightning bolt is small but bright, providing a stunning contrast against the dark sky and the distant landscape.

Een fraai gevormde CC (cloud to cloud) bliksem tijdens de stormchase van 7 augustus 2018. Een zwak jaar qua onweer, dit was 1 van de weinige hoogtepunten. Maar wel met een aardig resultaat!

In late July of 2016 we were treated to some insanely beautiful and powerful lightning displays in the midwest. By all accounts I probably should be dead from having been this close!

This is my first successful lightning photo. I took it last week from the verandah of the house we were staying at, at Diggers Camp in northern NSW, using a long exposure and hoping for the best! My family were walking on the deck, hence the shake of the lights at Minnie Waters in the distance. We had a few nights like this.

We are off to Darwin tomorrow for Christmas, so am hoping for more lightning photo opportunities!

I may not get a chance to upload anything before Christmas, so if not, Merry Christmas everyone.
